Apologies if anyone else has posted this. There's a great deal of good sense in this piece.

It also highlights the potential impact of the already widely derided named person scheme. I understood that the scheme had been gutted after the judicial review and that Scottish government had dropped many of the provisions. But if a council is really advocating allowing a third party to intervene to allow children as young as 12 to transition then it would appear that the Scot govt proposals allied with a continuation of the named person scheme could damage many families.

I'm afraid I don't know how to do clicky links!

Hope this is clicky:

It was posted in the Saville-metoo thread but is fully deserving of it's own thread. Good to see women speaking out in Scotland and critical articles in the papers. This is the second one published by the Herald so hopefully a sign of things to come.

I mentioned the connection with the named person law to all my MSPs when I wrote to them last year. The state power is becoming rather scary stuff and each and every one of my MSPs completely ignored me.

Tweet them the article and ask how to get a response

The article is excellent.

Really good, well argued, comprehensive article.

I remember that the author was very prominent in the campaign against named person and I'm glad she's on to this. I note she comments on how quietly the government has set changing things in Scotland - I think that's true. If they do tie it to named person, I wonder if that might back fire as it's so unpopular and might generate publicity?

I agree, the power the state is assuming over children is very worrying.

It's really good but it loses itself here:

Feminists and others ... have been “no platformed” and vilified for questioning the claim that anyone can be the opposite gender to their biological sex.

They try to be too nice. What they're trying to ask is whether someone can be a sex that is different to their actual sex? If not and it's only "gender" that changes, then society should be willing to allow masculine or feminine presentation irrespective of sex so long as children and young people are not given harmful drugs or surgical treatments. But since single-sex spaces are there for a good reason, then gender presentation should not be enough to obtain access if a person is not of the correct sex.
