A low-budget, much less articulate dissection of Riley's film than Magdalen would do:
Oh Riley. You still have a penis.
Despite how fast you talk, we can see through your falsehoods.
You're a male-bodied person, potentially with gender dysphoria, who likes female-bodied people.
That means you can travel with your penis passport in all those places you're worried about without being assaulted or beaten, because you're a male-bodied person dating (I believe) a female-bodied person. Your passport, literally, will be your out from being legally punished for holding hands with your girlfriend in those places.
In Oz, probably not. Though lots of people get odd looks. Which isn't right. We should campaign for noone to get odd looks (not because they think they're a lesbian, but because no one should get odd looks). Because no one, anywhere, should be beaten or judged for how they present, regardless of their biological sex.
(PS the odd looks probably aren't because they think you're lesbian, even though lesbians get harrassment, but because they're reading lots of social cues and trying to work them out. male dating female, but presenting as female )
If you tie up your hair and wear gender-non-stereotypical clothes and walk around with your girlfriend, at the least, people may wonder. But they'd most likely read you as male person with female person, male person choosing signifiers that are outside the 'norm' of male people.
You're straight. Many males who break the norms of what people think of as 'male' get funny looks. It's shit. If you're choosing to adopt the stereotypical clothing and behaviour of females, you still shouldn't be judged.
We should shout and campaign against it. You should be able to be proud and happy to walk alongside your girlfriend. That doesn't make you a lesbian.
And seeing as I'm assuming you weren't trans as a young teenager, I really can't see that you were pressurised into liking boys. The heteronormativity you speak of - that affects gay biological females and males - would presume you were pressurised into liking girls? (Erm,which you do now!) You're appropriating.
PS you can go to bars and clubs even if you don't drink. They're not 'non-drinking-exclusive' places. 7up and lime and soda are a good alternative. Are we to see a new 'alcohol exclusionary radical drinkers' category so your feelz are even more hurt? AERDs?
Oh, and by the way, you yourself say you haven't run into anyone saying they hate gay people. Just the rolling eyes and shoving into people. That's horrible, and shouldn't happen,
But you're not gay. You are a male-bodied person who is breaking the stereotypes of what it means to be male, dating a female-bodied person.
You're straight.
In a world that doesn't like confusion. So I can see why you may experience prejudice and that's not on.
But you're straight.
Sorry about that for the unicorn spit and all.
