Bits I found interesting

So ~25% of people still think a woman's place is in the home, more men than women think that

And mothers should stay with preschoolers, not a Parent

Most odd, whilst only around 61% of men felt that remarks on a random woman's appearance were wrong, only half of women thought that

Mmm. My inner pessimist wonders whether questions about 'traditional' gender roles like man at work/woman at home are just going to reflect other economic changes that make this model not financially viable for many anyway.

I suspect we are a bit less sexist as a society, but the sexism that exists is finding other, less blatant ways to express itself. So majority of people would say "oh gosh no!" if you said "should women stay in the home and not work", but lots of them still agree with the attitudes behind that if they're expressed in other forms.

I'd be interested to know how many people agreed with statements like this:

  • women are just better with (their own) babies than men are
  • men don't see mess the way women do
  • a man should help around the house, but it's only fair that his female partner lets him know what jobs to do
  • women are less ambitious in the workplace than men, they're not as interested in pay and promotions.
  • mothers who stay at home are lucky that their husbands work hard to keep them in that lifestyle

etc.
