Interesting points in the article.

  • When fighting for gay rights, activists were fighting those in authority
  • when fighting for trans rights, activists already have authority on board. Instead they're fighting grass roots resistance

" Unlike with past social movements, if change is to come it will be from the top down "

Ended with a rather sad stat though. 82% of people say they are “not prejudiced at all” to transgender people but only 41% say qualified trans people should definitely be allowed to work as primary school teachers.

Very interesting.
Do we know who the author is? I couldn't find a name.

Wanderabout · 08/07/2018 20:05

The Economist doesn't do byline for pieces written by staff. The recent series with invited guest writers did though.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/07/2018 20:07

Oh I thought it was one of the guest pieces.
Thanks.

Thank you camper! Reading

I know. I found that sad as well when I first read it (in the guardian) and it applies to police officers too, about the same number don't think trans people should be working as that.

But what it says to me overall is that people on the whole are very happy to live and let live up to a point but they think trans people shouldn't be in positions of authority where a stable and well adjusted mental attitude is required. Which kind of shows up what they think about gender dysphoria.

Bi11yOneMate · 08/07/2018 22:43

I wonder what the problem is with primary school teachers. Do you think those individuals would have a problem with secondary school teachers?

NotTerfNorCis · 08/07/2018 22:54

when fighting for trans rights, activists already have authority on board. Instead they're fighting grass roots resistance

This explains the speed of their success and the risk involved in speaking out against their ideology.

Wanderabout · 08/07/2018 22:57

This has been a deliberate and planned tactic by activists. Now it is just beginning to be exposed and is starting to fall apart.

thebewilderness · 09/07/2018 00:57

Most people do think gender dysphoria, or whatever they are calling it now, is a mental illness because of the way that transgender advocates behave.
When homosexuals came out of the closet it changed people's perception of homosexuality from the media propaganda images to the reality of our friends and family members.
The same thing is happening with transgenders except the other way around. The more transgenders advocate for drugs and surgery for gender non conforming children the more people want to restrict their access to children.

I'm sure they claiming half of them are constantly suicidal, doesn't help.

@ereshkigal I can see why if you look at the thread about the security guard incident elsewhere. It would require someone to have amazing resilience as their appearance will in some instances be used by members of the public as a reason to insult or goad them.

Bi11yOneMate · 09/07/2018 10:57

From a GC viewpoint I must admit to having reservations about having someone who visibly upholds gender stereotypes
over biological reality, as such an important role model in a child's life.
