Have you filled in the consultation on GRA?

hi all
just filled in this in

I couldn't find a thread talking about your experience of filling it in

I found it incredibly frustrating, not least because I felt there was no clarity in terms of separating "sex" and "gender". It has clearly been designed in the most demotivating way and I thought it was much less clear than the Scottish forms.

what do others think?

I was wanting to promote it but I don't think most people will bear with it so is it better to just ask friends and families to write to the department and local MP?

More questions for Penny about the wording of this.

OlennasWimple · 08/07/2018 21:06

What did you think it would cover, OP?

SweetGrapes · 08/07/2018 21:09

Just waiting for fairplayforwomen to release there guidance.

And am still reading through.

I got stuck on the first question anyway... and am still figuring out whether I am trans or not based on the current rules.

Oleanna
Stupidly I thought it would cover the impact of self ID on society as well as those individuals

But also I expected to see the words "biological sex" and I got stuck on stuff like non binary

I'm non binary but I don't think I can say that in this consultation
We're all non binary FFS

But when words have lost meaning and you have to keep looking back at terms of reference for every other word - and they're not all in there - it's a mess

It's probably my fault

My MP did say - though I didn't get it - that it was just a trans issue. It's my fault, I see that. I somehow thought it was going to be asking for opinions on self ID.

Here's a useful article to cite on the need for gatekeeping. I used it in my answer to Q3:

Without a diagnosis of gender disorder, there is no valid reason for someone to wish to pretend they are the opposite sex. This requirement helps to screen out people who are autistic, homosexuals with internalized homophobia, and most importantly those who are " seeking gender reassignment to facilitate or normalise paedophilia. This latter small group described gender reassignment as a means by which to increase their intimate contact with children, which they viewed to be more socially acceptable in a female role." (Kate Saunders and Christopher Bass, "Gender reassignment: 5 years of referrals in Oxfordshire", The Psychiatrist, Volume 35, Issue 9, 2011 , pp. 325-327.)

The government said that they would consult with women, so I am taking that at face value. My responses will reflect my views and experience as a woman.

My main concerns are the definition of transwoman (who falls into the category?) and self-id (the very obvious pitfalls).
