Coming up later, apparently.

OP posts:
Floorplan · 03/07/2018 12:12

Do you reckon Paris will be able to answer this question without reference to trans issues or suicide rates?

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 12:41

Brand advertising
BBC bias
Let the Y chromosomes have a cosy chat about our future

Vine is a cyclist so keep your expectations low

AbsintheFriends · 03/07/2018 13:09

I absolutely DID NOT want to ruin a serene sunny day by listening to this, but here I am.

Enjoying the fact that the intro record is Fleetwood Mac's 'Tell Me Lies.'

scottishbride · 03/07/2018 13:11

Ha ha! Tell me Lies!

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:13

You are doing a Good Thing! Keep us posted

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 03/07/2018 13:14

Jealous Guy, Oh my, the songs get better and better!

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:15

Grin maybe there's a t* on the show

AbsintheFriends · 03/07/2018 13:17

Credit where due, it was a very good essay. Nothing at all about gender, but about child abuse and forgiveness. Moving and well written.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 03/07/2018 13:17

Little lies and jealous guy! He must be doing this on purpose!

LARLARLAND · 03/07/2018 13:18

I thought it was great. She also has a lovely voice.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 03/07/2018 13:18

Shania Twain next maybe?

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:21

Oh lees is presenting? This must be the life changing thing

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:22

Bbc is unbelievably biased. Wow.

HaroldsSocalledBluetits · 03/07/2018 13:26

That's twice now she has distanced herself from, as she terms it, "poofters".

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:27

That's homophobic

LARLARLAND · 03/07/2018 13:28

I think she was quoting her father when she used the word poofter.

AbsintheFriends · 03/07/2018 13:29

Pratchet it's a regular slot called 'what makes us human' where prominent people read out an essay they've written (on what makes us human, surprisingly) then get their chosen record played and are interviewed afterwards.

PL's essay was good, BUT I was Hmm about the opening bit which was all about his (not misgendering - talking about PL as a small child) explicit and extreme violent fantasies of beating up his father, battering him with a baseball bat etc. As someone who claims to have been essentially female since birth, this seems highly incongruous. And contradictory. To say the least.

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:30

Oh thanks. There was a lot of homophobia driving h** choices there, I guess.

dinosaursandtea · 03/07/2018 13:31

Love Paris. She’s a terrific journalist and activist and a genuinely nice person.

AbsintheFriends · 03/07/2018 13:32

Interesting.

PL: I just needed to be me

JV: And 'being me' meaning what? Fully transitioning to being female?

PL: (nervous laugh. Hesitation.) Well... yeah. Just being a girl.

OunceOfFlounce · 03/07/2018 13:35

At home with mum today. She's not political and hasn't been aware or much of this but without a second's hesitation found the idea that you can change sex or be born in the wrong body utterly ridiculous.

R0wantrees · 03/07/2018 13:36

Paris Lees describes the experience of being 'pimped' by an older man as a vulnerable 16 year old which led to the incident resulting in conviction and imprisonment.

Later brings up that as well as campaigning for transgender rights she is also keen to campaign for sex work, mentions advertising.

LizzieSiddal · 03/07/2018 13:38

I think they’re coming across much better than I expected. I feel for them and their awful childhood.

Pratchet · 03/07/2018 13:40

No one hasn't changed sex, however sympathetic one might feel.

R0wantrees · 03/07/2018 13:42

There have been a number of comments by some TRAs that this is a genderational thing and that 40+ people don't understand diversity.
