This is happening now. A fantastic presenter on points west reported upon it. I don't know if it's online I recorded a bit on my phone. Praise be to the female reporter.

Like basically we have pregnant women in these garden sheds. The mother delivered at 7 months. No surprise.

It's the first five and a half minutes of this programme:

Discotits · 27/06/2018 22:59

What’s points west?

Discotits · 27/06/2018 23:00

Oh I see now.

UpstartCrow · 27/06/2018 23:01

Housing crisis in bristol, portacabins used for homeless people. Its the first report at about 1 minute in;

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0b7mfxr/points-west-evening-news-27062018#

There is an unprecedented number of children being taken into care. Austerity measures have disproportionately affected women.

Alexa488 · 27/06/2018 23:10

The whole situation is disgusting and I don't use that word lightly.

Many thanks whoever got that video up.

sorry, but I just watched it live and have a completely different take.

She had been homeless for months, pregnant, on the streets and sleeping rough. Bristol has a housing crisis, ,and nowhere to put her.

In order to get her off the street and safe, she was offered one of these cabins. They are just like a small caravan, one room and a tiny bathroom. Yes it is small, and yes it is not great, or a long term solution, but it has been a stop gap to get her off the streets.

Her baby was born early, and no, I don't expect it was due to her being in a cabin, but much more likely due to her general overall health during pregnancy if she has been sleeping rough for months.

The council said they would look again at her case once the baby was born, and they have now said it again. I think she will be in a flat very soon.

steppemum

I would like to sincerely thank you on behalf of the infant

wtf????

would you like to explain your slightly bizarre comment?

The council are working to get her off the streets and into housing. As a TEMPORARY measure to get her into a safe space, they put her into one of these cabins.

I happen to live int eh real world, where councils can't just magic housing out of thin air.

Who exactly are you disgusted with?

Snappity · 27/06/2018 23:47

They can. It is a question of priority. If they made ensuring nobody was homeless, it would happen. It might mean other services were cut but, for me, making sure people are housed should be a priority.

spontaneousgiventime · 27/06/2018 23:51

Absolutely Snappity. If we cut out the cosmetic procedures on the NHS the money could house homeless people.

UpstartCrow · 27/06/2018 23:54

Remember the good old days when we had an NHS and social housing? Of course, we also had other things like Trade Unions and the Labour Party.

DaisyLand · 27/06/2018 23:56

Why get trans women get involved in this topic ? Bristol has a big problem with homeless as there are more than nowhere else.

Council is trying to find a place for her. She’s been discharged today but not the baby as is premature. Therefore they’ve got time to look for a better place for both of them.

spontaneousgiventime · 27/06/2018 23:58

DaisyLand Where did I invoke trans people? You're just looking to be offended. Behave.

steppemum · 28/06/2018 00:02

spontaneous - it wasn't you.
Op posted this at the beginning:

Like these are issues that suicidal trans women deal with all the time...not

DaisyLand · 28/06/2018 00:02

Did I mention you @spontaneousgiventime ?

The OP has got it mentioned in her initial comment that’s why I’ve asked.

spontaneousgiventime · 28/06/2018 00:04

Hands up I boo-boo'd. Apologies DaisyLand.

Please don't @ people in a thread it's bad form and clogs up my email box. Ta.
