He hasn't done any time at all. Despite choking her and beating her.

He gets to start over again at another university weeks after his conviction. And she is dead.

I'm not advocating violence, this is pure fantasy, but I often dream of a female hit squad going round culling nasty guys like this.

The most upsetting thing about this is not that there are evil, violent abusers out there, it's that I know there will be females around him who, on being made aware of his background, will make excuses for him or say he deserves a second chance. There is only one thing standing in the way of female liberation and that is other women. If we had widespread solidarity we would achieve all our aims. We live in a patriarchy for the simple reason that men support other men much better than women support other women. Sigh.

Emily's texts to her friends are just so sad and indicative of the gaslighting shit that evil like this guy perpetuate. She is telling them of his violence and that he had strangled her but that it was her fault, absolutely shame on Oxford Brookes. Although l also wonder if his family background had a helping hand?

How tiresome that it still needs to be the case that people have to go through press to highlight this sort of thing? I'm a staunch believer in the necessity of a free press, and when you see this sort of story, I think it really highlights the useful work journalism does.

His grandfather was Jim Milligan apparently a well respected judge, so yes connections.

Angus Milligan is the grandson of the late Lord Milligan, a Scottish judge. I was vaguely friendly with his aunt many years ago although haven't seen her for years. I don't know which of Lord Milligan's children is Angus Milligan's father.

This is a tragic case. A glib little soundbite like that is deeply insulting to Emily and her family and friends. The bullying was carried out by Angus Milligan. There also seems to be inadequate pastoral care at Aberdeen University.

What is the full story here? The papers all say she broke it off with him, he visited her and 'minutes later' she was dead by suicide. That seems very odd.

It wasn't glib. For heavens sake. It was a remark of frustration that we have the power to stop all this if only all women could be made aware we need to work together. And I know how impossible that is and that's why I sighed. Also absolutely NOWHERE did i say women were responsible for men's wrongdoing - just that women could stop it if we showed as much solidarity for each others wellbeing as men show solidarity for other men's wrongdoing. This case was appalling. His very well connected parents got him the very best lawyers and he was whisked away to some huge fucking family estate in Scotland to lie low. That poor, poor girl. I am glad his face has been plastered over the papers because he must feel invincible. Parents able to pull strings and smooth the way and do damage limitation so that no shit stuck to him. I was sickened at the time and I’m sickened now. How proud his parents must be and goes out there and the risk is there that he’s going to behave in a similarly nasty way to some other girl. Because he’s got away with it before hasn’t he? Be interested to see whether this thread is ‘disappeared’ - hope not.

But Norther women wouldn't need to work together to stop all this if men weren't doing it to us in the first place, would we? The notion that women rather than men are perpetuating the patriarchy is laughable.

This case isn't about female liberation. It has to do with bullying. What on earth has widespread solidarity got to do with it?

The attitude of bullies needs to change- it is not women's responsibility to fix that although it certainly would not go amiss if men were to call out other men's bullying behaviour.
