That's absolutely terrible how being in court was worse than the assault itself, and what a sad conclusion. What a horrible experience, I hope Maria recovers her faith in human decency soon

Melamin · 22/06/2018 23:46

I think this is why so many people don't go through with court cases unless they really have to. Maria did a brave thing.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 22/06/2018 23:53

Thank you for linking. I think Maria writes very well & yes she is/was brave. I still cant believe a judge instructed her to lie under oath Hmm

Southfields · 22/06/2018 23:54

That is what rape victims say: they were on trial, and the trial was (nearly) as bad as the rape.

Ah so pleased it was posted - I wasn't aware until I read this of the collusion of the TRAs in lying in court.

There's a letter of complaint signed by 3/400 women been sent to the relevant judicial overseer about the judge's remarks and his false accusation of "bad grace" on Maria's part plus he denied her compensation because of that. He misinterpreted the guidelines and misapplied them - she should not have had to use preferred pronouns at all.

Brave woman

Ereshkigal · 23/06/2018 11:52

600 apparently. And the letter was thrown out.

Ereshkigal · 23/06/2018 11:52

In the comments of the FC interview.

Nuffaluff · 23/06/2018 18:26

I’ve just read this interview and it makes me so angry all over again.
The supporters of the transwoman who assaulted her made stuff up about Maria and lied in court. They got away with that.
Maria MacLachlan, the victim of a horrible assault, was required to bend over backwards to call her violent attacker by the right pronouns so as not to offend the poor flower. This at a time when she was under huge stress, having to relive the attack.
And if I call her violent attacker a man on here, which I would obviously never do, my comment would be deleted.

GrimDamnFanjo · 23/06/2018 18:28

Maria should be able to claim compensation via the government body CICA.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 23/06/2018 18:37

Ereshkigal , my alter ego!!

600 apparently. And the letter was thrown out.

Oh that's great and disappointing - I didn't know that - what happened?

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/06/2018 19:39

Interesting point she makes about the cognitive pressure of misusing language in court. I know we’ve talked about this on another thread but I really believe that being forced to use incorrect pronouns can jeopardise a case. Firstly it puts the witness under pressure and they can slip up, and secondly, it creates a false image in the minds of the court. Constantly using she instead of he minimises the assault - it’s feframed in the mind as a catfight rather than a large male punching a slightly built female. In this case I think the judge acted terribly and there needs to be some investigation of that.

I’m also saddened but not surprised to hear her say that she feels no good has come of it. I can only say that seeing that footage was a pivotal moment for me, so maria if you’re reading this, I’m one of your silver linings. I’m also incredibly sorry you had to go through that in court and angry as well.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 24/06/2018 07:49

Yes Bowl- she was re-victimised by the legal and justice system- a common experience for most women who try to assert/support their legal rights - or in this case support the CPS prosecution for a crime against her.

It's all part of women and children never getting justice nor a fair hearing for the crimes against them

ISaySteadyOn · 24/06/2018 07:51

She is an incredibly brave woman and I think she was treated disgracefully.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 24/06/2018 08:39

I wonder on what grounds the complaint was rejected - anyone know?

Ereshkigal · 24/06/2018 08:49

Not sure, it's the first comment on the FC interview but it doesn't say much.
