Response from my female Labour MP supporting the demands of A Woman's Place

Had a response from my MP to my letter about self-ID. While she supports self-ID in principle, including for all women's shortlists (she was selected from one), she agrees there are concerns in some specific circumstances and says she is happy to support the demands of 'A Woman's Place' for a respectful debate and wider consultation.

She also forwarded my letter to Susan Williams, the Minister for Equalities, who also responded.

Hope the attached are legible.

I wrote to my MP yesterday, so far nothing.

It's good to see some MP's are listening to women though. Thumbs up to your MP.

I wrote at the end of April! Sent a reminder last week and then got a response.

My MP is one of the few reasons I'm still a Labour member. They give me so many reasons to want to leave...

Fantastic!

I'm pleased with it. I was expecting something more non-commital.

That's a great response

In two minds...she is covering all bases here IMO because she isn't sure what way the wind will blow.

You could look at it like that I suppose....
I guess I am pleased she said she's happy to support the demands. They are eminently reasonable, but there has been so much negativity around the feminist position, this seems like a small victory to me.

I concur Flowers and you did so well to get hat response!!! Better than I have ever managed to do!👍I just wish they would SEE and ACT! Rather than wiffle waffle about concerns for the trans, concerns for the women but not sure what to do so hey ho let's talk about it and see what happens!!

HELL NO! How about you get on with what you are ELECTED to do and keep the girls and women safe who make up the majority of the fucking population!! How about that?😡

Terfulike · 22/06/2018 21:56

I found it a bit flat. Too much sticking up for trans rather than women.

Can you imagine if you wee trans, and you'd written a siMilan ilk of letter, but worried about trans concerns re the GRA?Can you envisage that her reply would have included numerous paragraphs detailing women's concerns and rights? Because the reply is full of paragraphs detailing trans concerns and rights.

When are mps going to realise that this GRA is about two groups of people women as well as trans people!

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 22/06/2018 21:59

Oh, that's good news. Thanks for sharing it, Flowers.

MP writes "The fee that is charged upfront can also act as a barrier ... " to getting the GRC. This is a constant theme in the propaganda.

In reality, the fee is £120, and is discounted if you are on benefits.

For comparison, TV license is £150 and passport is £80. I've not heard of any political campaigns to reduce their cost.

PeakPants · 22/06/2018 22:11

I think the point is that there needs to be a debate rather than one side being shut down for 'hate speech'. And it seems that your MP backs this.
