Yet another sick man.

However I propose this thread has a different focus where we post examples of brave women in the news and elsewhere standing up to wrongdoers.

Great idea for a thread. Loving all of them

To the brave women in this article, for coming forward with your stories and not giving up, despite the shocking indifference of medical and legal professionals, you are my heroines of the day. Your tenacity and courage will prevent other women being butchered and hopefully give those already affected the strength to come forward and seek some form of redress.

Soumya Swaminathan

She is an Indian chess grandmaster who has pulled out of an Iranian tournament because of compulsory hijab requirement. She is campaigning for organisers to bear in mind restrictions on women when considering venues for future tournaments.

For this she earns Heroine of the Day

Mandy Madumo was stabbed multiple times by her boyfriend and now campaigns against dv in memory of those who didn't survive.

Thembi Maphanga was doused in petrol and set alight. She refuses to hide her scars and goes out in public to shame society for its toleration of domestic violence.

Two brave South African heroines of the day.

Angela Rose is a terminally ill woman from Milton Keynes. She is a single mother with three children. With good humour and grace she is preparing individual memory boxes for her children.

Angela Rose and mothers out there going through similar tragic circumstances are all Heroines of the Day

Jess Stewart

She is a feminist campaigner who tweets at @Scottish_Women. Her freedom of information requests have forced Scottish councils, the Children's Commissioner and Education Scotland to admit that they had not undertaken any impact assessment whatsoever before issuing guidelines to allow unfettered access of transgender people into single sex children's spaces.

Her resourcefulness, courage and determination to reveal the truth earns her Heroine of the Day.

Great thread Norther. So many courageous women! Flowers

ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2018 22:07

Keep it up, norther! I'm glad you're not actually limiting it to one per day.

Norther · 25/06/2018 23:04

Thanks! I was going to limit it but there are so many great women out there doing all kinds of amazing things in their own way. It would be wrong to balance one achievement against another.

Scholastica Nacap.

She refused to accept this and walked barefoot for 60km to escape their reach. Now 18 she helps out at a club teaching girls about the dangers of early marriage.
