Really badly researched and irresponsible article on their website here www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/XZjhcLhQW08Ylw5b0p9xgH/gender-dysphoria-transgender

You can make a complaint here www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/

I have complained. This article flies in the face of advice from the Tavistock etc.

Bloody hell:

“Young people who are distressed because their bodies are developing during puberty can be given treatment to stop these changes. The relief this provides helps them to make better judgements about how they want to live their lives as adults. If they wish, they can stop taking the medication at any time. It is safe, and its effects are reversible.”

That’s so very incorrect. I will stick a complaint in this week.

TheLocalYokel · 17/06/2018 15:11

I really hate how people use "gender nonconforming" as a synonym for "trans*" Angry. It's the opposite fucking thing.

Theinconstantgardener · 17/06/2018 15:14

Will write to complain. Irresponsible fekkers

catgirl1976 · 17/06/2018 15:15

It was the 'safe and reversible' that really made me angry :(

OP posts:
Theinconstantgardener · 17/06/2018 15:18

Referencing GIRES. Wht am I not surprised.

catgirl1976 · 17/06/2018 15:20

Yup. I I knew it was them or Mermaids as I was reading. We are ALL bloody gender non-conforming to some degree or the other. Not 1% of us. It doesn't mean you need to start taking pills that will leave you infertile with crumbling bones Angry

OP posts:
Theinconstantgardener · 17/06/2018 15:25

The page says last updated oct 2017 so Im wondering how long the article has been on the page. I will still write though.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 17/06/2018 15:28

The 1% sounds so bid but only 50 in 1000 have any treatment AT ALL.

"Are trans people protected by the law?"
"The Human Rights Act 1998 protects the privacy and dignity of gender variant children and adults. This protects people from being called by the wrong name, or being mis-gendered, or being made to use the wrong toilets."

Wrong according to "presentation" or sex? This rubbish could have more people pushing to have gender questioning boys use the girls toilets & changing rooms.

ReluctantCamper · 17/06/2018 15:28

fucking hell. thank you for pointing this out. complaint submitted.

safe and reversible

what the fuck?

Bowlofbabelfish · 17/06/2018 15:28

Complaint in. Cheers for flagging.

BettyDuMonde · 17/06/2018 15:29

I wonder what the manufacturers think of these drugs being used off script? Does anyone have any resources?

(I was once prescribed domperidone by my GP to help with milk supply but it was all a bit of a drama because it isn’t licensed for that, and I was 35 and only using it for 6 months or so)

Datun · 17/06/2018 15:30

Asking for all the studies that show the effects on children who have stopped blockers, would be interesting.

As, I believe, the continuation rate is practically 100%.

catgirl1976 · 17/06/2018 15:31

Thank you everyone who has complained Thanks

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 17/06/2018 15:32

I have complained. Whether anyone at the BBC gives a shit remains to be seen, but we have to keep making a noise about this. Thank you.

UpstartCrow · 17/06/2018 15:33

I've complained and asked them to send me a response.

Bowlofbabelfish · 17/06/2018 15:33

Yes it’s the safe and reversible that’s the real stand out thing.

To reiterate: drugs like Lupron and all GnHR antagonists have irreversible, permanent side effects. They are NOT considered safe for children and Lupron is, as far as I know, being used off label if it’s used for this in the UK.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3227666-Puberty-blockers-Lupron

BBC need to take a very long hard look at who they are unquestioningly taking information from and have full medical review of ALL articles like this. For it to be aimed at children is unforgivable.

catgirl1976 · 17/06/2018 15:33

I asked for a response too. If / when I get one I will post it on here.

OP posts:
Bowlofbabelfish · 17/06/2018 15:40

GnRH... uuuuuuuhhhh autocorrect 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyway, the entire class of drugs should be absolutely nowhere near healthy children.

Pratchet · 17/06/2018 15:45

Well spotted

catgirl1976 · 17/06/2018 15:54

I saw it on twitter from someone else but thought it was worth sharing on here

Bump

I'm a member of the Kialo debate boards and there is a discussion about SRS/hormone blockers being the best treatment for trans.

Many of the TA's cite these obnoxious sources from Trans lobby groups saying that blockers are safe. They're effectively LYING to people. It gets me very angry.

There's a petition to US Congress re: GnRHa's and the damage they've done to so many women:

ALittleBitofVitriol · 17/06/2018 21:56

Okay, so brain changes during puberty literally lead to being able to make 'better judgements'
It's why we don't let young teenagers drive or get tattoos.

The brain is a part of the body people, blockers don't just effect your tits/balls.
