What my son just said that made me smile...

Just something small maybe, but it warmed my heart...

I have a sports fanatic son, so he was of course just discussing the World Cup that is on at the moment. He asked how many Mens world cups there have been since he was born. The he said, very matter of factly, discussing them both on equal measure - “there have been three Women’s world Cups and three Mens World cups since I’ve been born Mum!”

Nothing to do with a Trans discussion. I just was so damn proud that it was normal and quite right to him that the Women’s World cups were as valid and perfectly reasonable to be discussed alongside the men’s. Not as a joke or token gesture, if even discussed at all.

Made me smile. I do t want to go down the road of who might start to be in those teams in the future. I just want to hold on to what this means right now... Smile

Great!

SarahCarer · 16/06/2018 10:20

I have literally never heard the World Cup referred to as the men's world cup before. Well done Kettle! Your ds gives me hope.

LangCleg · 16/06/2018 10:27

Yay your DS!

Ereshkigal · 16/06/2018 10:31

Brilliant :) I guess he's a teenager?

Kettlepotblackagain · 16/06/2018 10:33

He is 9 - so this is the third World Cup...Smile

Bless him Star

Serfisafleur · 16/06/2018 11:27

He's not necessarily 9.
He is between the ages of 9 to 11-and-11months

Great he recognises these things.

The history of women's football is an interesting one. It was opressed for generations by the FA and only formally recognised in 1993.

Serfisafleur · 16/06/2018 11:28

Oh he is nine Grin

Lottapianos · 16/06/2018 11:31

The men's World Cup - I love it!

BlackeyedSusan · 16/06/2018 11:48

Excellent.

Plattypuss · 16/06/2018 12:03

I thought the world cup was every four years so how could your child have experienced six, is it at least 24?

Kettlepotblackagain · 16/06/2018 12:16

Just double checked this! This is the third Men's one since he has been born (in 2008). There was one in 2010, 14, now 18. The Women's is 2007,2011 and 15. So he has actually only had two women's since he has been born...

That is fantastic

Such a small thing (Men's World Cup) but such a big thing

Language matters

BettyDuMonde · 16/06/2018 12:46

Yay for your son and the mother who is raising him to be so awesome (you)!

Anyone know what the current FA rule is re: mixed sex teams?

I played on the primary school team (small village, they didn’t have enough real boys to field a side without a few of us) but back then (80s) it was forbidden from the age of 11 onwards.

(Sort of idly wondering if ‘identifying’ is now enough to appease the FA)

loveyouradvice · 16/06/2018 14:42

Fabulous - brought a smile to my face.... With boys like this!!!!!
