Excellent article by the excellent Jeni Harvey on what feminism is and who it's for. There really is no arguing with any of it.

If you don't believe people can change biological sex and you don't believe men can be central to feminism, it's quite simple.

MsBeee · 16/06/2018 08:00

Yes, exactly

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 16/06/2018 08:08

To an old second waver, it's still quite shocking that it even needs saying.

SumerisIcumenin · 16/06/2018 08:15

Agreed, Prawn. Such a hideous direction and threat compared to the world we thought we were helping to build for women.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/06/2018 09:04

One can not change sex. Those that were born male, have XY chromosomes will always be male. Many who present as female do not even have surgery to remove genitalia, yet we are supposed to accept them as women when they, in fact part of the oppressor group, and continuing their oppression by invading women's spaces such as sport, changing rooms, refuges, women only positions etc.

Good article, thanks for sharing.
I am a MERF - male excluding radical feminist Wink

Melanippe · 16/06/2018 20:53

I just thought it was a nice, clear description of what feminism actually is as opposed to what people say feminism is, or wilfully misrepresent feminism as. Useful alongside the Feminism 101 page.

That was interesting

Plus i love that quote

nocoolnamesleft · 16/06/2018 21:29

I wish it were possible for people to actually change biological sex. Because then those poor sods with actual gender dysphoria could do so. And all the TRA AGPs would be seen refusing this in horror, and thus revealed for what they are. Sadly, however, it is not.

PositivelyPERF · 16/06/2018 21:34

I enjoyed that. The responses from those in academia were really sad. It was also interesting that so many of them were teaching philosophy.

thornyhousewife · 16/06/2018 21:41

Thanks for the link. I hadn't heard of JH but really enjoyed reading her work.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 16/06/2018 21:50

I don't entirely agree with it, but it's a good article.
