I was at my local hosiptal out of hours service recently.
There is a sign on the counter saying:
Chaperone?
If you would like anyone of the same gender to accompany you during an examination, or at any other stage of your appointment, please talk to a member of our team.
This does not seem right to me. Surely I have the right to a chaperone of the same sex as me - i.e. female.
What is the best way to go about challenging this?
Surely the equality laws mean that if I as a female ask for a female chaperone then the hospital would be obliged to provide me with someone of the female sex rather than someone of the same gender who could be someone of the male sex eg a transwoman?
Can someone more knowledgeable tell me where to look for information on where the equality laws state that sex can be the decider rather than gender. In this case there will be 100s of women using a service compared to the number of staff who may be male but has a female gender so surely one transwomen's rights would not be place above 100s of women?
