I'm so jaded now that I fear these changes will need to come in, for it to be a massive muck up, for people to take notice.
I'm one of the trans widows, and sadly I know that very few give a hoot until it effects them. Or until enough people are shouting about it effecting them, for others to feel brave enough to join the crowd.
I have hope that time will fix this. It clearly is a very fashionable cause, and while fashion might change, some basic principles stay the same. I don't believe there is a magic solution around the corner to basic biology.
I don't want anyone to go through what my children and I are going through. So if folk are posting online their opinions and preferences, then people can make an informed choice about who they have children with.
And if folk are talking about this, then the truth will out.
I think we have a funny situation where, in much the same way that folk didn't really believe two women could have sex, that folk aren't really understanding the sexual aspect to the sartorial choices for some who fall under the umbrella term.
This is again worth reposting, it is from the DSM V, and I'm certain the moderators (who I feel for!) do not have instruction to delete sections taken directly from current medical textbooks.
Gender Dysphoria (p456)
" Adolescents and adults with late-onset genÂder dysphoria frequently engage in transvestic behavior with sexual excitement . The
majority of these individuals are gynephilic or sexually attracted to other posttransition
natal males with late-onset gender dysphoria. A substantial percentage of adult maleswith late-onset gender dysphoria cohabit with or are married to natal females. After genÂder transition, many self-identify as lesbian ."
"Natal femaleswith the late-onset form do not have co-occurring transvestic behavior with sexual excitement."
P702-704 ‘Transvestic Disorder
Transvestic disorder occurs in heterosexual (or bisexual) adolescent and adult males (rarely in females) for whom cross-dressing behavior generates sexual excitement and causes distress and/or impairment without drawing their primary gender into question. It is occasionally accompanied by gender dysphoria. An individual with transvestic disorder who also has clinically significant gender dysphoria can be given both diagnoses. In many cases of late-onset gender dysphoria in gynephilic natal males, transvestic behavior with sexual excitement is a precursor .’
‘Associated Features Supporting Diagnosis Transvestic disorder in men is often accompanied by autogynephilia (i.e., a male’s paraphilic tendency to be sexually aroused by the thought or image of himself as a woman). Autogynephilic fantasies and behaviors may focus on the idea of exhibiting female physiological functions (e.g., lactation, menstruation), engaging in stereotypically feminine behavior (e.g., knitting), or possessing female anatomy (e.g., breasts).’
‘Specifiers
The presence of fetishism decreases the likelihood of gender dysphoria in men with transvestic disorder. The presence of autogynephilia increases the likelihood of gender dysphoria in men with transvestic disorder .’
