Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Why are there so few degree courses on Women's Studies & Feminism?

Just that really. I've been threatening to go back to Uni and finally get my degree for a few years now.

Having become increasingly interested in feminism and feminist theory, I've started looking into whether this would be a degree option. Looking on the UCAS course finder there is hardly anything out there which is specific to women's studies or feminism. The best I can find is that it might form part of a module in another undergraduate course - such as sociology or philosophy. And if you try and find anything which is suitable for part-time or distance learning then it comes back with a big fat zero!

Has this always been the case?

Because they are all called Gender Studies now.

I've tried searching for gender studies and I'm still struggling to find anything that's not tied into a "wider" subject area - like Eng Lit or Sociology.

It's usually part of a sociology degree I think. You could specialise in Gender studies for the latter part of the degree, but include more general social science subjects in the first two years, so could include other social science , or arts, subjects. In Scotland the degrees are 4 years for honours, and depending on the Uni, you do either one or two years of Honours, but the first two years are general

Women’s studies have been colonised by TRA and turned into gender studies. It’s been a hostile takeover.

Oxford runs a Masters course in women's studies, but that's about it.

York

Thanks all.

I'd looked at York already but it's all post-grad.

However I had finally twigged that most of it now seems to fall under Sociology (so glad that someone else has reiterated this!). Annoyingly Lancaster seems to have a really good Sociology degree and content available, but doesn't offer any undergraduate distance learning options.
Whereas the OU obviously does but its Sociology degree doesn't look nearly as good; it's still interesting but there is a lot more feminist and woman-centred focus on the Lancaster course (so hopefully more opportunity to challenge virtue signalling bullshit Garden!).

I really wish that more Universities offered part-time and distance learning!!
