This woman did what any motorist must do every work day - squeeze through a gap into jammed traffic. For having the temerity to put her car in front of a man's car, this man gave her and her fiancée serious and potentially life changing injuries.

Men have form for this sort of thing. Women driving legally, competently and, most egregiously, freely on public roads seems to inspire primal rage in some men. Here are a couple of illustrations.

Women driving may be legal in the west, but legal obviously isn't the same as equal and safe for women.

We've still got a long way to go, baby.

If you overtake men, they nearly always look over to see who's driving. Quite often, the man I have overtaken will speed up to overtake me afterwards. It's pathetic

Yeah I mean wtf is that all about. They really cant bare to be behind you even when the road is 2 lanes. They look then speed up Hmm

They would rather be in the wrong lane and then have to force their way in further up the road. Even if that means they stagger two lanes at the round abouts. Than just drive at the speed limit behind you

BecauseWeCanCanCan · 09/06/2018 12:59

Basically the speed limit was 50 mph and I was doing 50mph in the outside lane and he was angry as couldn't get past me even though I was doing speed limit.

Why were you in the outside lane? Why not move over to the inside lane?

This, every day. DH and I work in the same place and so we take it in turns to drive my car. I have a Focus ST in the delightful tangerine scream colour. You can really see us coming! If I overtake, a bloke will clock me and then feel obliged to do the above (presumably so his penis doesn't shrivel up and fall off). If it's DH driving, it very rarely happens.

Its the same on zipper mergers too. You hang back they pull up beside you far enough to see who's in the car then go from hanging back to merge behind you to suddenly pushing in the gap you left for the car to merge in front of you...up until they spot who's driving they are happily in "their spot "

My daughter recorded a guy who was right up my backside after I didn't let him out in front of me in a car park (he was behind give way lines). He was so close I couldn't see his licence plate number so she made sure she got it...he dropped back when he saw her phone.

My car isn't girly...maybe I should start wearing a fake beard.

Not just women-this happened to my elderly father (70 at the time) who was driving perfectly normally at the speed limit for the road (40). When slowing for a roundabout some idiot overtook him, stopped in front, blocking him, got out, and abused him for several minutes for 'holding him up' - telling him he shouldn't be on the road, etc. etc.

So many man are just arrogamt, ignorant bullies, who will pick on anyone they percieve as weaker, to relieve their frustrations.

Kyanite · 10/06/2018 12:42

They do pick on those they perceive to be weaker, which generally happens to be women and there are guys who think women shouldn't be on the road.

I was in a pub the other day that overlooks a busy, 3 lane roundabout. A guy was in the wrong lane so he moved over (in his 50s or 60s), the young guy in the Polo behind him was annoyed and leant on his horn. The guy in front, who had changed lanes, stopped his car, got out, opened the young guy's car door and proceeded to punch and kick and him. The young guy missed the punch but moving over. Then the older guy drove off.

I only honk when I really have to, when I need them to know I am coming rather than as a telling off...you just don't know what they might do. I keep my windows up and doors locked too.
