I've just noticed that Sarai Walker's book Dietland is now a tv series (Amazon Prime). I loved the book, especially how Plum discovers her power and rage. StarAngryStar I tend not to watch tv/film, adaptations of my favourite books, but I might be tempted for this one. Has anybody seen it?

I haven't read this, but your thread made me look it up. So I'll probably read and watch it now - thank you. I know that wasn't an answer to your question but hey you made an inadvertent recommendation. Smile

It has Julianna Marguiles

If I had Prime, I'd watch it

She was on Jimmy Fallon saying her character is the way she is because she's hungry all the time.

Also said she has Trump dog poo bags Grin

I couldn't finish it. It is one of maybe three books in my life that I put down without finishing. I read science fiction and can relate to aliens.

I've just come across this show and I'm loving it so far. I know of the main actress from years back when she was on the "fat-osphere" blog links. She's amazing.

I haven't read it or seen it but I have Prime so your post has prompted me to check it out. Thank you

I'm sobbing after episode 3. Her monologue at the end cut close to the bone.

I'm just watching this... Not got far yet and thought I'd come here to see if anyone else was talking about it. Interesting so far.

CholloDeNombre · 09/08/2018 22:54

It gets weird in places, but it's worth watching all the same.

Buffythevampireslayerr · 09/08/2018 22:57

I watched it all, and I loved it! Haven't read the book.

I’m binge watching this tonight. Wish I’d known about the book, but just discovered it on Amazon.

I loved it up until episode 9 and the finale. Really loved it.
And still think that Joy Nash should get an emmy.
But I was not keen on how the woman's group was portrayed when you finally get to see them.
There are differences between this and the book (I read that afterwards). I preferred the TV adaptation.

Ooforfoxsakeridesagain · 25/08/2018 10:04

Is the book worth reading still Mozzie?

One of the few occasions when I'd actively want editors etc. to deviate from the book. I felt that too many of the disconnects/jarring changes in the book made it across to the TV version and led to it being as flawed as the book.

I'm interested enough in the topic to give the second series a chance if/when it appears but prepared to bail if it doesn't deliver.

Ooh fox...Good question...
For me personally the book came across as Young Adult Fiction so given the fact that I got a cheap kindle version and have a teen, it was fine as a purchase and a very easy read (took me a couple of days) as DD will also read it.
But reading it after the fact, brought nothing new to the table as I was seeing Joy Nash et al in my head anyway. Some characters in the novel are underwritten compared with the show, some don't exist at all in the book.
Still no news on its renewal. The showrunner did UnREAL on Prime which had a well-received first season then went downhill over the next three.
