sonic me too! (No # intended Grin) She was awesome! Wow.

AllTheDressesInAllTheSizes · 06/06/2018 23:34

Wow.

MyRelationshipIsWeird · 06/06/2018 23:35

Just caught the last 20 minutes and wish I'd seen it all! Will have to watch on catch up. And maybe try and get DP to watch it too, as he keeps sending me Jordan Peterson videos to watch!

Newspeak · 06/06/2018 23:35

Shamelessly marking my place so I can watch tomorrow Grin

2rebecca · 06/06/2018 23:36

Sounds good. Love her books and listening to her but had been out racing this eve so recorded it

Whatthefoxgoingon · 06/06/2018 23:36

She was really very good. I’m a little smug that she didn’t say anything I didn’t already know, but she spoke very eloquently and I’m chuffed she got the platform.

Melamin · 06/06/2018 23:38

2rebecca, you are in for treat. She was every bit as good as she was this morning on Today when she was telling us what she would say.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 06/06/2018 23:45

I am so wired from that I can't sleep.

I want everyone I know to watch this. I am going to rewatch it again and again. Similar, What, it was all stuff I know, and say, but nowhere near as concisely as that. I hope I can improve.

Can we get her lecture into the school curriculum? My god, that would make such a difference.

😍 (I hate heart emojis, but this time it's really needed)

Lefthanddown · 06/06/2018 23:46

That was really enlightening, she crammed in so much information into a short time period, yet managed to link it all clearly.

The rise in AI, especially in female form is something I hadn't considered previously; it's made me feel quite uncomfortable especially in the current climate.

She was amazing! I feel genuinely inspired, first time in a long time.Grin

BakedBeans47 · 07/06/2018 00:36

Thoroughly enjoyed it. She was inspirational.

Nuffaluff · 07/06/2018 08:09

I stayed up for that too, then I got hooked in by the ambulance programme, so I’m shattered this morning.
She’s great. I’ve always enjoyed her writing. It was a brilliant speech.
My husband enjoyed it too.
I especially loved the title ‘Don’t protect me, respect me’.
The thing about AI and sexbots made me think especially. Writers are often right about these things.

QuarksandLeptons · 07/06/2018 09:16

Just listened to it. She’s such a great speaker. So many topics knitted into one invigorating talk. So much material for future FWR threads!

CoolCarrie · 07/06/2018 18:14

I am the same, watched and she was excellent, then ended up watching Ambulance as well, so tired today, but it was worth it. Wonderful speaker and writer.

lightthedarkness · 07/06/2018 18:25

Thank you OP for the heads up. She's a great writer and I've heard her speak before.
Will listen to this later!

Melamin · 07/06/2018 18:36

She certainly has a way with words! Grin

It made my day, yesterday. The room was pretty fantastic too (Speaker's Robing Room?)

It was amazing. I was about to switch the TV off and head for bed, but I couldn't stop watching. Brilliantly presented and she packed so much in there!
Why was this on so late though. Honestly think every person in this country should have watched it! They really should have put it on at 8 or 9pm.

2rebecca · 07/06/2018 22:30

Just watched it, she was brilliant. My husband thinks she's the best speaker he's seen. Excellent.

Melamin · 07/06/2018 22:37

She was wonderful - 10.45 was too late for the rest of my family and I watched it alone, with matchsticks.
