This is NOT about trans in sport. It is about intersex individuals, Caster Semenya et al

The IAAF are brilliant, they really do have their fingers on the scientific pulse when it comes to such issues - as evidenced by this firm and well referenced rebuttal. I wish non-sports people had more faith in general in such governing bodies.

Oh, and i'm going to buy the Tom Murray book mentioned RIGHT NOW; could not be more up my street. Thanks OP.

Its about Female Classification.

It includes discussion of some of the specific issues relating to both trans women and intersex women.

But the point is that it is about how women are defined by IAAF.

The position the IAAF takes influences many sporting bodies' policies so will be relevent to women's sports.

There's some background re the site:
(extract)
"The Sports Integrity Initiative (‘The SII’) was created to air key issues in sports integrity and to provide a platform for debate. The SII is independent of any party and will remain neutral in order to provide as balanced a discussion on the issues as possible."

Its interesting that the IAAF are looking into the science of testosterone in such detail, in order to preserve fair competition for women, when they are seemingly not interested in other differences between trans women and women. Height and skeletal differences for example seem to be shrugged of as natural variation, despite the fact that no woman could ever have the taller height or skeletal structure of a man. It seems the only difference (in terms of competitive sport) between men and women that the IAAF see is testosterone.

No it really isn't.

The new regulations specifically only apply to specific hyperandrogenic intersex disorders. They do not affect transwomen even a little bit.

The points and references within the document linked have relevence.

They are part of how the IAAF define women.

What an excellent, fact based article. While I agree that height, skeletal structure and indeed muscle mass are also factors, this was specifically about testosterone. Does anyone know what the IAAF view of these other factors is?
