Lush and the spy cops scandal

Undercover police officers connected with secretive units like the Special Demonstration Squad, have been targeting political activists since 1968. They have befriended and betrayed campaigners in a thousand organisations, ranging from the Young Liberals to the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Greenpeace.

One method of gaining access and acceptance within spied on groups was for undercover officers to build relationships with women already in the groups. Between 1985 and 2010 there are only three or four years when an undercover officer was not in a taxpayer- funded relationship with a woman campaigner. These women have never been convicted of any crime. Some of these officers had wives and children, while also developing sexual relationships with campaigners. One undercover police officer even had a child with one of the campaigners.

There's a petition trying to get Savid Javid to improve the public inquiry because they're just trying to cover everything up and derail tit (surprise surprise!)

Can someone please tell me why this spy scandal is called Lush ?
I keep imagining its something to do with the bath bomb shop that I can't go into for fear of sneezing.

Ereshkigal · 02/06/2018 12:00

It is the bath bomb shop.

theaveragewife · 02/06/2018 12:00

Lush (the marmite bath bomb shop) started a campaign around it with window posters and info on their website, this appears to be being taken down now due to pressure.

Ereshkigal · 02/06/2018 12:02

I particularly don't like Lush and their performative wokeness store campaigns but I will sign the petition.

Ereshkigal · 02/06/2018 12:02

Don't particularly

AssassinatedBeauty · 02/06/2018 12:03

It is sort of to do with Lush. This week they had an ill advised shop window display supposedly about this campaign. However they managed to make it look like they were saying that all police are paid to lie. The link to the campaign was in very small writing and not in any way explained. It's gone down like a lead balloon with police and plenty of the general public.

Lush seem to have got involved because someone connected to the owners (Rebecca Lush. Not sure what her actual connection is) was involved in some way with the police undercover operation. And of course they just want to flog their stuff on the back of a populist anti-police sentiment.

MuddyForestWalks · 02/06/2018 12:03

blythe the soap shop has jumped on the bandwagon and is running a dreadful advertising campaign with the tagline 'police paid to lie'. They claim it is to do with the undercover policing scandal but their advertising uses a photo of a uniformed officer and crime scene tape, and is seen as smearing all police by calling them liars. It does next to nothing to highlight the real issue (which I agree is scandalous) but has done a fab job of offending people in the police and an even better job of getting people to talk about a.smelly soap shop.

I'm having fuck all to do with Lush. I know Helen Steele is supporting them in this, but after the Trans policies and the way they treat their staff, I can see it as no more than a publicity move. Giving me the willies, frankly

Sarahconnor1 · 02/06/2018 12:24

However they managed to make it look like they were saying that all police are paid to lie.

This. While the cause is just the campaign by Lush is awful. The main focus of the window display was a uniformed copper and the words 'paid to lie'.

I can't stand Lush and their veneer of ethics.

There's some more information here.

Whilst the Lush campaign smacks of woke marketing opportunism I think the issue is really important and should be discussed more. The police groomed women for years - for intelligence. Many of them had other families. This i a national disgrace - no matter what side of the political divide you stand on

I think Lush will have done the campaign more harm than good tbh. People will associate it with a cynical marketing stunt now :(

SameTerfDifferentUserName · 02/06/2018 13:04

Agree Lush have actively harmed the cause. Woke wankers. I would sign a petition, but not if it’s got anything to do with Lush.

UpstartCrow · 02/06/2018 13:12

DJLippy
Lush have nothing to do with the petition, it was organised by The Campaign Opposing Police Surveillance; so can you get MN to change the title?

MuddyForestWalks · 02/06/2018 13:18

Might be a better idea to start a new thread. Otherwise this one will make no sense with a title change.

DJLippy · 02/06/2018 13:41

Yes I think I might start a new thread...
