Women & Equalities minister- reform?

BBC article 'Why does the women's minister keep changing?'
highlights a number of issues:

'Now a committee of MPs is asking whether the constant "merry-go-round" is affecting the work of the unit responsible for government policy on women, sexual orientation and transgender equality.

Maria Miller, who chairs the women and equalities committee, called for "consistency in ministerial responsibility" and questioned the wisdom of moving the brief around different departments.

"The equalities brief is hugely important to the government's agenda of tackling burning injustices," the Conservative MP - who was women and equalities minister between 2012 and 2014 - told the BBC.

"And if this is going to continue to be a top priority then we have to have some consistency in ministerial responsibility."'

I wonder if the 'burning injustices' would be better served by having two ministers/ committees etc: one for women, one for equalities?

They would obviously have overlap and be able to work together effectively.

Oh that would be no good because the most important minority would want to be in the women's camp.

Maria whinged about this during her trans event which no MP attended except DBB. She was trying to use it as an excuse for her failure to trample on women's rights swiftly enough to appease the trans community get self ID on the statute book.

It's just another tactic. There is no reason for this to be raised, apart from self ID not getting enacted. It's more deep PR: the message is that the only reason self ID is not law is due to the Women's job being politically mismanaged. Nothing to do with the fact it's a stupid idea and lots of people have misgivings. Plus a handy bit of shade cast on the women's portfolio for good measure.

It would be a great polical statement given the centenary anniverary of the 1918 Representation of the People Act that gave some women over the age of 30 the vote.

I have noticed in some areas that the post is referred to as 'Equalities minister', it may be shorthand or perhaps says more about how the scope of the role is viewed.

How come women got lumped in with trans anyway. There's a direct conflict of interest.

Wow really?

the unit responsible for government policy on women, sexual orientation and transgender equality
Since transgender ideology is homophobic and misogynistic, this unit is always going to be at war with itself.

I expect they each looked at what had been done before, and realised that it is a much bigger job than they had been lead to expect..........
