Guardian warning men about how their porn use can be tracked online

and telling them how to use
VPNs to cover their tracks. Online privacy is something I strongly support, but how the G is framing this tells me rather a lot about the low regard they have for women and children and how skeezy they think their male readers are. Most democratic govts aren't interested in consensual mainstream porn with all-adult participants, so just what do the Graun think their male readers watch?

Tried putting the link on again and when I hit preview it did the same thing with the space at the start between the "and the h, and the final s after the "".

Bros before hoes...

Then – once the confidential and intimate act is complete – you sit for a serene moment.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

The Guardian hate women and are getting more brazen about it by the day!

lostinjapan · 29/05/2018 16:53

The article isn’t explicitly aimed at men though is it? Lots of women watch porn too, and would also want to keep their viewing habits private. As a female, tech unsavvy, regular viewer of porn, I found the article interesting.

robotcartrainhat · 29/05/2018 16:53

I might be missing something but I didnt see where this was specifically aimed at men? It doesnt use the words 'he' or 'men' at all in the whole article?

But yeah it is an odd article because I agree, why on earth would the government be interested in the porn you look at? The article is basically saying if you go incognito or sign out of google and delete your history then no one who uses your computer next could see what youve been looking at.... and surely that is all anyone would be concerned about re porn anyway??
Why would people be bothered about the actual sites knowing youd visited them or the government be able to find out youd visited them..? That is a bit dodgy isnt it? That implies youve been looking at some really weird stuff. And the line 'if you are paranoid, which you should be' is a bit chilling too... I mean unless you are watching some dark dark things why on earth would you be paranoid?

bd67th · 29/05/2018 18:29

@lostinjapan @robotcartrainhat The clue that this is aimed at men is "you sit for a serene moment". I've only ever in my life been able to masturbate lying down, because I am female and therefore sit on my genitals. By contrast, men's genitals are well placed for seated masturbation.

Ah -

Law enforcement (govt) might well be interested in people vewing illegal content. e.g. that big international sting around people who paid to view images of child porn.

That is who they are talking to obviously, and also obviously they couldn't come out and say it as blatently as that. That's the only reason I can imagine the UK authorities being interested in porn viewing.

Oh or - it has been used as support in trials for rape / murder where the history shows that they had an interest in e.g. extremely violent porn, strangling, that sort of thing.

So that's 2 I can think of.

And even then vpns are useless, if it's free then your the product I'm afraid, also a lot of vpns track user data.
