Amazing that anything so fundamentally basic is seen as progress, isn't it?

But good that it is finally being addressed.

It's because men as default is particularly entrenched in services / situations where men are by far and away the main "users".

The criminal justice system is set up by men, to protect men and their property, from crimes by other men, essentially. Anything else has been an add-on which is why things like this happen, or why certain crimes are so hopelessly addressed.

Totally ridiculous that it hasn't been sorted out to date. Also totally ridiculous that police forces have to be forced by law to treat women with dignity.

HotRocker · 29/05/2018 14:06

Unbelievable that this hasn’t already been addressed.
And some women would have you believe there is nothing left to fight for.

There was a thread about this

And some women on it were saying that women in custody should be denied tampons / sanitary towels as they would be able to use them as offensive weapons.

Not many women to be fair - maybe it was only one can't remember - but they worked in this area in some capacity.

Problem we have is that lots of people on the "coal face" are incredibly jaded and come to see the people they come into contact with as a bit subhuman. You see it all the time, I'm not sure what you can do aboit it.

On police threads we regularly get police officers coming on telling women not to report certain crimes / that certain actions aren't crimes/ and all sorts of stuff. It's a real eye opener.

A bit shocked that it's only just being implemented I assumed sanitary products were already available as it's so obvious women would need them

AssassinatedBeauty · 29/05/2018 16:10

I remember the thread and as I recall it was a self identified male poster who was suggesting that sanitary products should be withheld. Which was ridiculous because anything you could do with a pad or tampon you could do with the paper suit they give people to wear.

And even if it was plausible that they could be used for self harm or to attack others, the solution is not to withhold them. Close supervision for those deemed at risk of this behaviour, for example.
