Repeal the 8th is not just a ‘cis woman’ issue

Says a post in my facebook feed.
But if ‘cis’ women are the only beings who can get pregnant, then surely it is?

Am I supposed to be sympathetic to transwomen who can’t have abortions?

Don't forget mr garrison...

BeyondPink · 25/05/2018 17:28

South Park, S9e1. If I like I might get deleted for transphobia though... 😬

BeyondPink · 25/05/2018 17:28

*link, not like

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/05/2018 17:31

Probably means trans men who identify as gay, ie are attracted to male-bodied people and have what anyone else would call heterosexual sex with them.

soapboxqueen · 25/05/2018 17:32

They'll mean Transmen.

ludog · 25/05/2018 17:32

I saw quite a bit of 'pregnant people' narrative throughout the campaign. I ignored it because my blood pressure is less important than getting Yes past the line. It does grate though!

53rdWay · 25/05/2018 17:41

So if it’s not just a ‘cis woman’ issue, does that mean they understand that it is an issue which affects people with wombs regardless of how they do or don’t ‘identify’ with gender? Well that’s my TERFy mind blown! I thought it was just the women with a deep affinity for lipstick and heels who needed to travel. Hmm

If only we had a word to describe the reproductive class of people with wombs, so we could point out whose issue Repeal the 8th is...

soapboxqueen · 25/05/2018 17:43

Ahhh but 53rd what you don't realise is that it is your inadequate knowledge of biology that leads you to believe that womb-havers are all female/women. Men have wombs too don't cha know.

Mrskeats · 25/05/2018 17:43

Transwomen can get periods too dontcha know?
There really is no band wagon they won't get on is there?

DearMrDilkington · 25/05/2018 17:45

pink GrinGrin

BWatchWatcher · 25/05/2018 17:53

My head is hurting.
Surely transmen were cis women once?

OP posts:
BeyondPink · 25/05/2018 17:54

Well, technically no one was ever a cis woman...

soapboxqueen · 25/05/2018 17:56

No one is cis

AsAProfessionalFekko · 25/05/2018 17:58

Everyone gets to vote though dont the they?

Bourdic · 25/05/2018 18:33

no one is cis

Yyyyyyyy

bd67th · 25/05/2018 18:40

Abortion isn't a "cis women" issue because there's no such thing as "cis". It's a female humans' bodily sovereignty issue, affecting women (female adults) and girls (female children). Some female humans wish to be considered men or boys, but they remain, as far as a class analysis based on reproductive capacity is concerned, women or girls.

rosylea · 25/05/2018 18:44

I watched a video last week about a transwoman who referred to the surgical bleeding from her newly constructed vagina, as menstruation. So to her mind, she has a womb.

Eolian · 25/05/2018 18:50

Hang on a minute. I'm as gender critical as the next woman, but couldn't this be a way of saying "It's not a cis woman issue, it's a whole society issue because women's rights are important to society as a whole, not just women"?

AssassinatedBeauty · 25/05/2018 18:55

You mean controlling women's bodies and their autonomy over reproduction is important to society (men) as a whole.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/05/2018 18:56

Dream on, @Eolian! Grin

Eolian · 25/05/2018 19:03

I guess so, Gasp0de. Like the username btw. #WearTheLilac

ErrolTheDragon · 25/05/2018 19:05

Bd67th is spot on.

newtlover · 25/05/2018 19:07

what? what?
how dare they, how fucking dare they?
this is a real thing, a real thing that affects women's lives and kills us
just fuck off with this juvenile nonsense and come back to us in 15 years when you have grown up a little

RavenWings · 25/05/2018 19:12

Well repeal the 8th affects men too, they're not wrong. There have been many men who had to travel over with women to support them during abortions. Then you've got men like Savita Halappanavars husband, or the husband of that poor pregnant woman who was kept on life support when brain dead. It impacts women much much more of course .
