Anyone else read about this. Shocking.

G Greer is right Women really have little idea how much men hate us. Every day I see it more and more.

Saw this yesterday - a Scottish government agency no less. Outrageous that one of the alleged bullies has recently been promoted too. Yes, women really are taken seriously when they raise issues aren't they. So glad she has people around her supporting her cos it looks like her employer seems somewhat clueless.

AssassinatedBeauty · 24/05/2018 18:42

"Boys being boys" means men acting out their misogyny and bullying women. I hope she wins her case.

AncientLights · 24/05/2018 18:45

Boys will be boys & banter then. That's all it was. Tying a woman up & gagging her. I suppose she's lucky they didn't rape her as a joke.

Disgusting cretins.

SwearyG · 24/05/2018 18:54

I think, sadly, that many women have stories like this. Men abusing them in the workplace but hiding behind banter and jokes. It makes me furious.

WineGummyBear · 24/05/2018 19:06

Nah. This isn't 'boys being boys'. Plenty of male people manage to get through the working week without indulging in bullying/harassment/assault.

Dyrne · 24/05/2018 19:08

The quote from one of the men is horrific: “I can't remember the event you mention, but if it did happen, it would have been office banter. Just a craic.”

MIdgebabe · 24/05/2018 19:35

Until I read the men's comments I thought it was a fake photo.

kikashi · 24/05/2018 19:40

I thought that too Midgebabe.

She should press for assault charges. Being restrained with the mouth taped can kill.

I would be doing the fuckers for assault, distress, everything I could bring. And the employer, who was informed and did nothing.

I’ve also never heard anyone who isn’t an utter shit use the phrase banter. It means ‘we will be doing something really bloody awful and if you object we will be calling you a prude/square/cow...’

Totallymyownperson · 24/05/2018 20:30

When I saw the photo I wasn’t paying much attention to what the reporter was saying and thought it was a crime story. They should be locked up for assault, false imprisonment and anything else they can throw at them

QuarksandLeptons · 24/05/2018 20:47

I hope she gets a brilliant and ruthless lawyer and gets those abusive bullies prosecuted

LaSqrrl · 24/05/2018 21:07

Being taped to a chair like that, yes, it has happened to me (more than 35 years ago) - but without the gag.

No reason, and no idea why they did it to me, other than they thought it would be 'funny' I guess. I was not amused, did not report it either, although back in those days it would have been dismissed with that ever-handy "boys will be boys".

This hostile work environment for women is why women are reluctant to enter, or stay, in many of these male-dominated workplaces. I just think back to the other thread (was it the t-shirt one?) with some of the cool women tutting 'other women' for not toughening up and going into these sectors. Hazing, harassment, sexualised remarks. I think I just learned to be observant and side-step situations before they occurred.

SeahorsesAREhorses · 24/05/2018 21:15

It's breathtaking what men get away with. Can you imagine a white man taping a black man to a chair and getting away with it?

kikashi · 24/05/2018 21:38

Deeanne Fitzpatrick worked at Marine Scotland for 10 years. 10 years of dealing with that crap and reporting it to no avail. The stress must have been intense.

lightthedarkness · 24/05/2018 21:43

Appalling story. Why on earth has it taken so long for it to be dealt with? That poor woman.

Totallymyownperson · 24/05/2018 22:19

Light - it still not being dealt with she is the one faces being disaplined

scotsheather · 25/05/2018 02:05

OMFG. Time is clearly not up on systemic sexism and misogyny being dismissed as 'banter', or as "Marine Scotland didn't want "a woman, especially a foreign woman"" type language acceptable.

I hope they through the book at these men and this will compromise their future employment. Can only dream.
