Show Dog and it's disturbing message.

I was shown this by a friend on Twitter and another on Facebook and wondered what everyone thought:

foreverymom.com/arts-entertainment/dog-show-movie-review-grooming/

In short, the film is using the 'put up with what you don't like because you need it to accomplish something' as a point of the film.

If you read the article it explains it better as have a squirming toddler.

But do you think this is hysteria? An actual problem in children's entertainment?

Oh goodness I glossed over "fondling". Did the reviewer really think it was fondling? That makes it worse.

thebewilderness · 22/05/2018 22:25

The reviewer makes it sound like the judge gave poor Max a hand job.

Crikey. Very sinister. Thanks for posting.

SpareRibFem · 23/05/2018 00:03

I'm in shock how anyone could have thought that was a suitable message for children.

DancelikeEmmaGoldman · 23/05/2018 00:11

I occasionally show one of my dogs. The judge does check for two descended testicles, but it's a rapid grab, no fondling. Judges check teeth as well. Some dogs/breeds won't put up with being handled by the judge, so there are workarounds.

I find humanised animals in films and books pretty creepy at the best of times - and this sort of stuff is why.

AngryAttackKittens · 23/05/2018 00:15

I'm no conspiracy theorist but there does seem to be a bit too much of it going on to just be a misread message.

Precisely. It's all a bit "if a stranger offers to give you ice cream and show you some puppies and the adults in your life warn you not to go with them then you need to be rescued from those adults by the nice man with the puppies and the van with the darkened windows".

Creepy and sinister. Thanks for flagging this, OP. I shall make sure DD does not see it.

Typeractive · 23/05/2018 09:47

I do not like the you must trust everyone or you are a bad person message either.

This is a really important point. I think that the rhetoric of diversity and anti-discrimination is sometimes being used to bully women and children into going along with things they are uncomfortable with. Our instincts are there to protect us: we should heed them.

What are genitals doing in a kids film? I’m trying to think of any other kids film I’ve seen with even any mention of genitalia, let alone a main plot. I’m still utterly baffled but I’ve shared it on FB so other parents can read it.

Italiangreyhound · 23/05/2018 10:07

Thank you @NotAnotherNoughtiesTune my 7 year old son was very keen to see this not now it is a no from me.

This shit suggests people who make kids' films are utterly unaware of reality or have some evil intention. How very horrible.

WTAF? Thanks for posting. Very concerning completely opposite message to NSPCC’s PANTS campaign!

DifferentDayDifferentName · 26/05/2018 21:56

I read the article a couple of days ago and was shocked. Would parent pressure on cinema chains work over here? Mass tweeting to complain could be worthwhile.
