On another thread, *AngryAttackKittens" asked:

If we're suggesting threads I just posted on the tshirt thread that maybe we need a group discussion about the tendency for some women to identify the thing blocking women's progress as being other women not getting with the program/letting the side down rather than men/the system actively blocking women's progress. It comes up in a lot of different contexts, that idea that the real problem is women not doing activism/life perfectly, and I think it would be an interesting topic to thrash out, but can't think how to frame it in terms of starting a thread. Someone who's better at titles than me could have a go?

In my opinion, the tactic is very much a "look over here, don't look over there" tactic. Meaning, we are onto something. Every single time some male, or libfem, says "this is way more important, why aren't you focusing on that?" it usually means, "shitfuck, the jig is up, they are endangering male domination in this area!"

It's pretty much a red flag, and to (not) focus on that area really, the one they say you should not concentrate upon, focus on their 'agenda' as to what is important to women's liberation.

Patriarchy is founded upon reversals. So when one of their representatives (MRAs, libfems) says "don't go there!" you know damned well, you had better be there.

Reading and understanding the use of logical fallacies really helps

Definitely. And not letting them off the hook. 'We can move on to that but first ..'

Sprinkling thought terminating cliches as though they were facts through a post is a red flag frequently waved in this forum, in my opinion.

When a commonly heard and accepted phrase is rhetorically introduced as a substitute for an actual argument.

Tautology in formal logic refers to a statement that must be true in every interpretation by its very construction. In rhetorical logic, it is an argument that utilizes circular reasoning, which means that the conclusion is also its own premise.

Transwomen are women is an example of this fallacy. To me it always reads like a bully saying "because I say so".

I'm not across the T-shirt thread and won't have time for a couple of days. So I hope I have the gist of the conversation right on this thread. In a post I recently put up - predictably I got a comment about "this is just so and so rehashed like we've seen on other threads".

I responded:

Other people's opinions about what my thoughts may be are not relevant to this discussion

and carried on.

As the objective of deflection is to get a person to leave, i.e. lose focus and /or leave out of frustration, then I do think it's really important to deflect the deflection, re-focus and carry on. So maybe a list of rebuttal phases?

I also find ignore a useful tool - I just don't engage with known time wasters who want to derail - for me they are not worth my time, as there history shows.
