What is it about men that in an ad by men for men it is funny for a man to be punched in the groin? Post-Fight Club 'irony'?

Was that an advert for the UK?

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 16/05/2018 10:25

Yes it was on sky at 8.45 today.

abbsisspartacus · 16/05/2018 10:27

It's been around for ages

IIIustriousIyIllogical · 16/05/2018 10:41

A bit late OP, it's been out for months!

(And it's quite funny BTW).

What's the actual objection you have?

SilverHairedCat · 16/05/2018 10:42

My husband cracks up at it. It's been on TV for months.

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 16/05/2018 10:46

I only saw it for the first time a few weeks ago. If its not obvious to you why seeing someone in pain from being punched in the groin is not funny I doubt I have anything to say that would convince you that its not,

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 16/05/2018 10:50

I think in the manosphere he would have been 'cucked' by paying too much and so deserves his punishment. As does any male who shows weakness.

rememberthetime · 16/05/2018 11:18

Are you a man op?

I think that if men object to this ad, they can complain themselves.

I think the ad is stupid and plays on the incorrect idea that men are a bit daft sometimes. But it's no worse than plenty of other stereotypes that are employed by advertisers as a shortcut to make a point.

They have 15 seconds to grab your attention - so they use everyday, well known stereotypes to make you understand what they are trying to say in a short space of time.

I personally don't find it offensive - but then, I'm not a man.

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 16/05/2018 11:49

This is the first time I have complained about an ad because most ads prey on fear, and many ads that objectify women are just as bad as violent ads would be in the long run-which arguement I won't itemised as I'm sure people here get that. I just object to violence in my face. Thats how I experience it. It normalises violence and will be extended to women if its ok for men. It surprises me how many here think its ok and funny even. Why are men only allowed to complain against violence to men? I don't get it. If someone is accusing me of being a male troll they can FRO. This is a legitimate post and I stand by it.

I imagine a punch in the testicles is a concern with your username OP Grin

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 16/05/2018 12:01

Buggered Well spotted!Grin

I think you're massively, massively overthinking it OP.

There are a lot of ads that are worse (in my eyes) for the poor old men (all those bloody "fat free" ones for example) - every man I know finds that ad funny...

thebewilderness · 16/05/2018 15:57

Not funny to me but then I do not consider violence entertaining.

IIIustriousIyIllogical · 16/05/2018 16:01

Don't ever watch You've Been Framed then!! Grin

auntycartmanslargertesticle · 16/05/2018 16:38

I do avoid YBF when its bloopers and slips or whatever its called and I take your point that accidental pain to privates is seen by many to be funny. But its do with do I have to see someone punching someone in a ad which I cannot avoid like I can a tv program Its not particularly that it was a man . What worse ads for men? Why do men find that funny? I didn't like it when they started bigging up a woman boxer on one ad. But maybe I'm hypocritical as I do support women being in combat role in the military. But thats necessity, not violence for entertainment.

This is nothing.
Remember The Wilycliff Jean advert for a mobile phone company( 2001?) where the punchline was him about to get raped in the prison showers as a result of breaking a contract with a woman.
I remember the line spoken by some enormous bald thug stood next to him. "Pickup the soap supe star"
Some fucking joke eh?
The year the Ad went out male suicides had gone up by 30%. A prime reason for male prison suicides is ongoing assault, both sexual and physical on men that aren't able to defend themselves and see no other way out.
The Ad was deemed humourous acceptable by the ASA. after multiple complaints.

Childrenofthestones · 16/05/2018 22:31

Sorry that was......

Nor me. It wasn't funny and it wasn't clever.

Italiangreyhound · 17/05/2018 00:48

Well done for complaining it's a shit advert.

lostinjapan · 17/05/2018 01:45

It’s comedy, slapstick violence. It’s in no way comparable to actual violence! Do people really get offended by Basil Fawlty smacking Manuel over the head, or Vic and Bob beating each other up with frying pans? Fine if it’s not your type of humour, but to be offended is ridiculous. People are so oversensitive nowadays.

thebewilderness · 17/05/2018 02:00

Violence as entertainment is in no way comparable to actual violence? Do you hear yourself?
I do not find violence entertaining. It is unfortunate that so many people do.
FYI, no rape jokes nor racist jokes neither, thanks.
Some people are just no fun at all.

lostinjapan · 17/05/2018 03:22

I was talking specifically about slapstick violence in comedy, not ‘violence as entertainment’ as a whole. But yes, Vic and Bob smashing each other’s heads in with ridiculously oversized rubber frying pans is completely traumatising Hmm

IIIustriousIyIllogical · 17/05/2018 07:22

Take a wander over to Liveleak - you'll see violence ^there.

A man pretending to be hit in the testicles by a boxing glove on a spring is not violence.

By all means be offended, but please be offended in isolation!!

"Look at me, I've reported this" just comes across as cruising for pats on the back....

No wonder Tom and Jerry isn’t shown anymore. I wonder if people would consider it 'triggering' these days!
