Trainer stated the 9 protected characteristics inc sex (which was referred to gender) and gender reassigment which was said to include anyone stating on transition.
They also helpfully offered to forward on stonewalls guidance on trans issues.

I was in a work environment so sat on my hands which was so difficult.

Just wanted to share really but if there is any good neutral info available would welcome links.

The equality act specifies clearly a GRC is NOT required to be covered under gender reassignment.

Who said it did?

Because if you're basing it on my post, you need to read things more carefully.

I recently had training at my work and out of 9 in total, the only protected characteristic the trainer defined word-for-word was the transgender one. It was also presented third in the list (as 'gender reassignment'), just after 'religion or belief' and 'disability', well before 'Gender' (sex) and Pregnancy/Maternity, which came last.

Then we had some case studies to identify which protected characteristics applied for a couple of people. Hardly anyone named the women's sex as a protected characteristic, but the trainer did helpfully say that a heavily pregnant woman can't be discriminated against if they're the best candidate, because they might come right back to work 2 weeks after the birth (why should that matter...?). Also, the trainer said someone with a disabled child couldn't be discriminated against in hiring decisions (is that really true? and how would it come up prior to hiring anyway, unless they disclosed it during the interview?) and that someone (male) who dressed up as a woman but wasn't going for gender reassignment wouldn't be protected (but again, in an interview, how would you know unless they volunteered that information?). Overall it was a bit confusing!
