Yes, it's accessible. Those women are so brave, I hope they stay safe. The men are going to try to stop them, obviously.

The linked worked. Wonderful women. I hope they can get more outlets for their products than just selling to passing tourists, but if anyone else gets involved the women would just get ripped off.

I feel like there could be an antithesis of @bewilderness 's the rules of misogyny written.

But it would probably instigate misogyny.

The village was set up in 1990, which isn't clear from the video.

What a brilliant, uplifting story. I really think this village is a microcosm blueprint of an alternative female led society, one which resets the patriarchal value system of violence and short term thinking and focuses on education and fairness.

I’m not able to watch the video (sleeping baby on me) but I looked it up on Wikipedia. I wonder how they protect themselves. Do they have women trained as security? Because while it’s clear that they are anti violence, it’s also evident that they have faced a huge amount of angry resistance.

Thanks for the link to their jewellery LassWithADelicateAir

According to wiki men tried to set up a rival camp and it failed. The village started after the women were shunned after being raped by British soldiers. Crazy ex husband tried to attack the villiage and the women left and returned after it was safe.

DuddlePluck · 07/05/2018 20:30

What they're doing is inspiring - just bought one of the necklaces as a birthday gift for a friend...

Ekphrasis · 07/05/2018 20:36

Wow!

In the film on their website they've set up 28 villages now. So inspiring.

Yes I'll be buying for my niece and a friends' daughters methinks.

Amazing brave women. World needs more of this.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 08/05/2018 04:20

What got me was the vehemence of the guy saying women couldn't be leaders - misogyny or what.

I wouldn't wish what happened to those women (gang rape) on any woman and I am pleased they have managed to find a way to make the best of that and have flourished and set an example for the rest of us to follow….

QuarksandLeptons · 08/05/2018 09:10

28 villages! Amazing
