Advice sought on readings re 'empowerment' of girls

I have read a bit on feminism without a clear methodology or objective. I am increasingly interested in how many seem to adopt patriarchal language/mentality to advance gender equality. For instance, the language of 'empowerment of girls and women, the emphasis on bringing up girls to know they can do sciences or be an astronaut. However, I believe this mentality seems violent at its core/competitive/reinforces the benefits attached to traditional male gender roles.
I think the society would be better if values traditionally associated and imposed on women were more valued and also imposed on men: nurturing/empathy/ability to express feelings/physical 'constrain'.
Can any of you recommend some literature on this direction? Thank you in advance.
