Interesting article:
www.buzzfeed.com/markdistefano/leaked-messages-reveal-how-female-bbc-staff-have-clashed?utm_term=.qyM09V6mw#.mmr0r4DbY

Utterly ridiculous that next to none of the BBC coverage includes any mention of the impact of the law/policy changes on women yet.

This is obviously an area of huge proposed change that women can see affects us.

Where is our voice represented, BBC?

clicky link!

Wanderabout · 01/05/2018 18:59

Thanks Pratchet. That link goes to the spectator article about free speech on medical ethics and children though.

I will try again with the BBC one:

Oh I'm such an idiot. I'm so sorry. Thanks for posting, I was toggling and had both on my paste option. Agree more coverage needed.

Smile

Clicky link help always appreciated.

Oh this is great. And also the chap who wouldn't apologise to PL. The tide is turning.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/05/2018 19:16

Both of those links were very interesting (and heartening) reading thanks OP, and Pratchet.

CATTinahat · 01/05/2018 19:56

It’s good it’s being debated. Worrying that younger women tend to leave the discussions when they don’t agree.

The figures are interesting too. 417 out of 21000. So that’s almost 2% of employees. Higher than the national average.

I can’t find figures for how many women are employed in total, but this article suggests it’s a long way from 50:50.

It would be interesting to know how many of the trans employees are MtF vs FtM. Also how their wages compare. Only then can we begin to assess whether these groups are genuinely oppressed /disadvantaged or otherwise.

So true!

That naive young woman who asked about including transwomen in the maternity leave policies.... No, asking about transmen would be trans inclusive (and a question that deserves to be asked). Asking about transwomen just makes you look thick Confused

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 01/05/2018 20:25

Indeed Olennas. Totally thick to ask that question. If you eyes weren’t open you’d think you were in a Monty Python/Carry On nightmare. One day that young woman is going to cringe with embarrassment at her stupidity.

Ekphrasis · 01/05/2018 20:38

I liked the line "you can't define women's rights if you can't define women."

The BBC's silence on all this is deafening.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 01/05/2018 20:42

OlennasWimple Apparently we need to include TIMs because womb transplants are a thing now.

This was a comment i read. Yes they were being serious!

OlennasWimple · 01/05/2018 20:45

Jeez, InLove.

Were people always this dumb, or has the internet just given a platform to them?

AncientLights · 01/05/2018 20:49

"Hello, I find this quote offensive… trans women are women and should be included in these discussions?”

Quote from the BBC link. Do they employ people from the Valley now? I'm very glad to know there's any discussion at all going on there even if it daren't percolate out often from the walls of BH. And the line "you can't define women's rights if you can't define women" got 'bollox' as a response, which is not very constructive really. But I do like those anatomical insults in this context.

InLoveWithDavidTennant · 01/05/2018 20:54

I personally think the internet (social media especially) has a lot to answer for. People are not living in the real world any more. I feel because they live their lives on twitter fb etc they cant handle the big wide world and the realities of life.

But thats just my theory Grin

thebewilderness · 01/05/2018 21:17

People have always been like this. The difference is that the interwebs creates the illusion they and we are all in the same room.

AbsintheFriends · 01/05/2018 22:03

I guess this maybe tells us why Woman's Hour have remained oddly silent on the subject. There's obviously A Lot Going On behind the scenes.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 01/05/2018 22:13

Hasn't Jenny Murray been banned from mentioning it on air?

Dark times.

Angryresister · 01/05/2018 22:25

Definitely time this elephant was properly discussed on woman's hour...the last time there was anything, I heard what were clearly men being introduced as women...even on an item relating to how " we women " cope with childbirth etc. Ludicrous.

Wanderabout · 02/05/2018 07:04

Yes come on BBC you are supposed to be balanced. This affects women's rights - many of your staff know it and we know it.

Why aren't you covering this debate? Why only one side?

Floisme · 02/05/2018 07:37

I don't know whether to be Grin or Shock at that woman saying transwomen should have maternity leave. It's like Monty Python meeting The Handmaid's Tale.

LaSqrrl · 02/05/2018 11:15

It's like Monty Python meeting The Handmaid's Tale.

But with less commonsense and far less dystopian warning.

DuddlePluck · 02/05/2018 18:13

It's like Monty Python meeting The Handmaid's Tale

Brilliant Floisme

But agreed, LaSqrrl, even that fails to capture the absurdity of transactivist ideology - reality's even worse Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 02/05/2018 18:36

I liked the line "you can't define women's rights if you can't define women."

I'm sure I said that... but then again, it's pretty obvious!

Coyoacan · 02/05/2018 18:43

Well from what I can see the BBC has been one of the most active proponents of transgenderism
