Amazing. Really made me think.

That is wonderful. Thank you so much

IdentifiesAsMiddleAged · 01/05/2018 05:45

Oh by the way: I like being middle aged. I see things more clearly now and am prepared to talk about it

IdentifiesAsMiddleAged · 01/05/2018 05:46

And though I am kind and sympathetic, I won't accept bullshit and lies that hurts women and girls

OrchidInTheSun · 01/05/2018 06:00

Brilliant

SophoclesTheFox · 01/05/2018 06:37

That is amazing! Thanks, Glosswitch.

Ifonlyus · 01/05/2018 06:54

Brilliant. Especially like the comment about twee/evil. So true.

ScreenQueen · 01/05/2018 06:56

I've got a cold and feel a bit weak, but must confess that thread actually made me cry, it was so beautiful BlushGrin.

Cliques · 01/05/2018 07:07

That nailed it.

I hate how much of my young adulthood was spent desperately trying to get people to listen to how I “wasn’t like other women”. I didn’t have a clue.

ISaySteadyOn · 01/05/2018 07:10

Yes, the twee/evil was brilliant.

Floisme · 01/05/2018 07:12

That is so good. I love the bit about how men don't like women talking without supervision. (I may have paraphrased.) If you're reading, thanks Flowers

QuentinSummers · 01/05/2018 07:17

Brilliant thread. Love her.

lightthedarkness · 01/05/2018 07:17

Such a good read to wake up to. Flowers

cuirderussie · 01/05/2018 07:23

Absolutely love it. I hate to say "I told you so" but some of the most vocally feminist women I know now now were "cool girls" in their 20s, having mostly male friends (who haven't stuck around longterm), insisting that other women were a bit dull and girly (not like them) and just generally trying to pretend all this stuff didn't apply to them. Oh and teasing me with my "1970s feminist ideas" because we've moved beyond all that now.

Well HA!

Sorry, that wasn't very dignified or nice Blush

53rdWay · 01/05/2018 07:26

Thank you, Victoria Wine

I definitely wasn’t going to be just some boring mummy wittering about nappies all day, oh no not me, I wasn’t one of them. Just like how when I got married I wasn’t going to be one of those bitchy vapid bridezillas like all the other women. Or when I was a teenager I wasn’t going to be one of those dramatic boring bimbos like all the other girls, and so on and so on...

Faceicle · 01/05/2018 07:29

It's really timely, and I now have to go and read Adrienne Rich. It fits in with the general contempt that comes our way, wherein being mothers we are the least of society. It also explains why the very young women such as Emma thingy are TRAs, as what would we know eh? Only a bunch of mothers.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/05/2018 07:37

Spot on.

LizzieSiddal · 01/05/2018 07:38

Thank you Victoria Flowers

It’s great to start the day reading something like that!
