Amber Rudd - Another woman ousted

QuarksandLeptons · 30/04/2018 08:18

Aside from party politics; in a political landscape practically devoid of women, it is very disappointing that a woman holding an incredibly powerful office has been ousted.

I don't think that a man in her position would have been as pressured to resign. Many men in the past year in the cabinet and shadow cabinet have done more reprehensible things and have remained.

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I'd certainly want Johnson where I could keep an eye on him.

SmilingButClueless · 30/04/2018 09:18

I don’t think this had anything to do with her being a woman. I think anyone in that position would have had to resign.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/04/2018 09:19

Apart from being leader of the party which he will by the next election Boris has the job he wants and shall continue to do so

He seems to be keeping a low profile at the moment

BartholinsSister · 30/04/2018 09:21

Racist?? Is she not in a relationship with Kwazi Kwarteng MP?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 30/04/2018 09:23

Is that you Amber? Not much to do today? Well, there there, just try and be a little less shit at your next cabinet position then, eh?

Elendon · 30/04/2018 09:33

It has highlighted the current disarray within the Government and it really is all down to Brexit. It's a precarious position to be in. Of course she had to go but obviously May should follow because she allowed Rudd to resign. This resignation is important. A strong leader would have nipped this in the bud instead of allowing it to escalate.

There are no winners in this current debacle.

Elendon · 30/04/2018 09:41

He will not be the next leader. That will never happen.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/04/2018 09:49

I thought that about Brexit. And Boris being FS. Who knows what the tories will come up with next?

Elendon · 30/04/2018 10:00

According to Order, Order it's all down to rogue left wing civil servants in high up positions - all very conspiratorial! You have to laugh. Civil servants in the ministries have to pass complex tests to assess their impartiality before they are considered for application.

PeakPants · 30/04/2018 10:01

Oh come ON
This had nothing to do with her sex. Did you read about what she did (although it’s actually also Theresa May’s fault)? Of course she had to resign.

Oh and the damage done to immigrants is huge. The whole ‘deport first ask questions later’ is awful. As well as their helpful guidance to ‘be Jamaican’ when dumping a long term UK resident into a country they have no experience or knowledge of.

Definitely deserved to go. May should too (but she won’t of course).

AngryAttackKittens · 30/04/2018 10:02

The appeal of Boris baffles me even more than that of Magic Granddad. The best thing I can say about him is that he's massively irritating.

Elendon · 30/04/2018 10:12

Johnson is an abject coward. Gove is a stooge. Rees-Mogg is not as popular as he likes to think he is.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/04/2018 10:26

Why do you think it will never happen Boris being next leader

He has the job in the cabinet he wants. Despite his open disregard for May and his mistakes he still keeps his position

WhirlwindHugs · 30/04/2018 10:28

I agree that a man would probably have resigned too (Except Boris...) and that it was the right thing to do. The behaviour of the government over immigration/citizenship is generally reprehensible.

But it is a shame, mainly because I have no doubt a great many people were aware and perfectly find with what was happening and she has been scapegoated. I certainly believe May is at least equally culpable.

Now that Sajid Javid has taken her job, I hope a female MP will replace him.

RedToothBrush · 30/04/2018 11:11

Penny Mordaunt to Women and Equalities...

Elendon · 30/04/2018 11:12

Sajid Javid is a tokenism appointment. Continue with the same old, same old. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed by all accounts, but that's nothing new in the current cabinet. This will not end well.

It's a bit like Trump's administration now. Who will be next?

QuarksandLeptons · 30/04/2018 11:40

Well that’s pretty unanimous!

The past few years of all of the political parties attitudes to women as made me apolitical so my antennae are tuned to female representation.

Yes, the current admin attitudes to immigration are awful and the impact on the vulnerable are appalling. I’m not condoning AR’s behaviour but I’m still not convinced she hasn’t been held to a higher standard due to her sex. And disappointed that a man has replaced her

The Tories are stuck with May for the time being. The thing about Johnson, Gove, Williamson and the rest is that although they want to be PM, they don't want to lead the country into Brexit - because they know that Brexit is going to be a complete disaster. So they will want to leave a decent interval of time before they step in to save the country.

I think the ideal scenario for someone like Boris Johnson would be this. May leads us into Brexit. Brexit is an inevitable disaster. There is a general election, which Labour wins. The Tories desperately need a new leader, so Johnson or whoever steps in, watches Labour make a mess of things and then steps in to lead the Tories to a sweeping victory.

That's a bit of a long game, though - assuming we stick with general elections every five years, Johnson - or whoever it is - wouldn't be prime minister until 2027.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/04/2018 12:39

I agree that others particularly Boris is waiting for us to leave the EU

The thing is I do believe it is bad for the country but the change will be gradually so the Tories will get a new leader Labour is stuck for now with Momentum and Corbyn and they are digging their own grave

Boris will come along to save the day Hmm and take over from May who they all will agree did a good job but it’s time for her to go. And the party will be behind him the Tories always pull together to stay in power

MillicentF · 30/04/2018 13:04

"Penny Mordaunt to Women and Equalities..."

It's more Women and Equalities to Penny Mordaunt......

MrPan · 30/04/2018 13:56

Interesting both Rudd and Javid were investment bankers...up until the shit hit the fan 2008-09...then left for a career in politics.

vitara · 30/04/2018 17:24

I think she hung on for longer because she was a woman.

Avasarala · 30/04/2018 17:29

Not everything is sexist.

It would be even worse if that incompetent and failing politician in her position because "she's a woman".

MrPan · 30/04/2018 21:26

I mean that both are chancers. If the brown stuff didn't hit the air conditioning in 2008 then neither would be with us.
