Has anyone else watched it? I've really enjoyed it. It's funny, poignant and portrays real people. It seems to be getting good reviews too. A good case for women getting the backing to tell their stories.

I posted about it last week - only seen the first few episodes but I burst into tears several times, some of it is very close to home

MyOtherUserNameIsAUnicorn · 27/04/2018 21:59

I loved it. Very relevant as I have a 12 week old! Just made me laugh a lot! Especially when she gets annoyed at her Mum for reading the baby Babaar the Elephant because it's about colonialism! I spent ages in the book shop making sure I wasn't starting off his life with any hideous gender stereotypes Confused It really grasps the minutia that you get het up about as a FTM.

GrainneWail · 27/04/2018 22:27

I really liked how the (vast) majority of the characters were women and so well drawn and different.

It's brilliant isn't it. But it gets a bit implausible towards the end.

boatyardblues · 27/04/2018 23:08

I enjoyed it. Loved the pub quiz episode - I remember that period when I couldn’t remember stuff, including words for things. I remember asking DH if it could be early onset dementia. The totality of the fog was terrifying.

boatyardblues · 27/04/2018 23:09

Also liked the drug dealer in the park and the wrong meeting. Grin

It’s on my list to watch. Netflix are really blazing a trail with female led stuff lately. Santa Clarita Diet and Crazy Ex Girlfriend are two of my favourites, both with not skinny, not twenty, not 2d lead roles.

Oh, and the Good Fight on More 4. Telly land seems to be copping on to itself a bit recently.

thatone · 27/04/2018 23:18

I just started watching this and it really took me back to when dc1 was born and all those feelings of being utterly overwhelmed and desperate.

GLOW made me roar. It cuts to a scene when the ladies are all staying a motel and they’re sitting chatting whilst bleaching their ‘taches and shaving their legs. You never usually see stuff like that on the telly. Grin

Wanted (Aussie crime/chase thriller) is a great depiction of female friendship and sisterhood too. Highly recommended.

GrainneWail · 28/04/2018 08:43

Thanks boatyardblues, I'll look that up. I'm trying to get away from murder/stalk/abuse TV shows and into more women driven ones.

just watched the first episode of this off the back of this thread. it made me cry a lot. DS1 was born 7 years ago but I so remember that feeling that you've actually ruined your life but there's no backing out now.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/05/2018 22:59

What channel please?

ReluctantCamper · 04/05/2018 23:06

it's on netflix Smiled

Waddlelikeapenguin · 04/05/2018 23:29

I really enjoyed this, will look up wanted. I am retreating into rewatching Miss Fisher atm Smile

Skittlesandbeer · 04/05/2018 23:29

Loved every cringy second of it. I debated putting my pregnant SIL onto it, but thought it kinder not to.

That stuff is raw enough 7 years later, to watch it before your firstborn would be horrific.

While I’m making it sound like a bad series to watch, it was not. It’s real, funny, and ground-breaking. LOVE noni hazlehurst as the Health nurse. LOVE the baby boomer grandma who loves the idea but not the reality of helping out.

OlennasWimple · 05/05/2018 02:44

Thank you so much for the recommendation - thoroughly enjoying it Smile

DisturblinglyOrangeScrambleEgg · 05/05/2018 07:28

Aussie stuff like this is fantastic - I also enjoy Offspring (and I'll check out wanted)..

I'm about 4 episodes in - they're doing a great job of balancing it all - you think you like/dislike someone then they carry on with that character and you discover that they're also a bit of a shit/not so bad - but it doesn't feel forced, just like they're people (obviously with some TV drama enhancement)..

I can't remember where this one is set, but Offspring made me seriously consider moving to Melbourne - it looked nice.

Jaxtellerswife · 05/05/2018 07:33

I've just started watching it and think it's so accurate and funny. The various mum types at the baby group are very well observed

ReluctantCamper · 05/05/2018 07:36

It's so honest. I have never seen the experience of being a new mother presented so completely honestly before.

midwives and health visitors should watch it!

confusedlittleone · 05/05/2018 07:52

I couldn't get past the episode where they did cry it out and fell asleep with the noise cancelling headphones on which is a shame because If they hadn't of done that it would of been great!

boatyardblues · 05/05/2018 07:55

I recently discovered Miss Fisher and it’s great. The social commentary aspect is interesting, but mostly I live watching Essie Davies chew up the scenery. Just seen the episode near the start of S2 with the fan dance in the gentlemen’s club and wondered if the other cast members had not been told what to expect. It looked very much like Nathan Page was trying not to laugh (but enjoying it) and that Essie Davies might have been genuinely topless for the big reveal going by the young constable’s face at the finale. Grin

CharDeeMacDennis · 05/05/2018 07:55

I didn't like it at all. Admittedly I gave up about 15 minutes into the first episode because it was annoying the crap out of me.

ReluctantCamper · 05/05/2018 08:02

I'm a bit intolerant of flaky people CharDeeMacDennis, so I didn't take to Audrey initially. But stuff comes out later that puts it in a bit more perspective. The unspoken narrative is that she's reeling from emotional and physical pain.

I'd say worth pushing through to finish the first episode.

and I love their house. It looks a hell of a lot cleaner than mine did when I had a 12 week old baby!

Natsku · 05/05/2018 08:05

Loved it, also have a 12 week old (or 13 weeks, I don't know, brain fog is real!) so it is so real to me right now.
