I've been critical of them along with many others and was considering joining the boycott but this article has made me stop and think. Not the article, but the comments. The overwhelming majority with high recommendations are gender critical, common sense, and refusing to bow the TRA pressure around language and calling bullshit on what is labelled "transphobia". Obviously it grated with the editorial team as they closed comments after less than s day, as their current wont, but I think this a good snap shot indicates that the majority of regular people want trans people to be treated well but not at the expense of facts and women's rights.

There is a piece in this morning about head boys/girls in schools. Just a little article but it is very balanced.

So many great comments under that opinion piece! I was surprised they let them through.

***
"This rigid, unyielding hierarchy of natural over unnatural, of biology over feeling, should terrify anyone progressive"

"In the absence of evidence that trans rights encroach on anyone else to their detriment"

There is quite a contradiction in this column.

***

The only problem with trans rights is the trans activists. Most people, male or female, straight or gay, don't care whether or not somebody is trans. They do care about trans activists punching women, trying to have feminists no-platformed, and generally behaving like the most boorish type of man.

I'm not convinced that this is a valid comparison, or even if it were, that it would be particularly helpful.

Neither do I think that any favours are done in denying that a tension, if not outright conflict exists between the rights of, for example, a transgender woman using a ladies toilet, and an objecting non trans woman using the same toilet. This is the difficult one to wrestle with, which may be why the author chose to raise the infinitely easier to deal with 'guide camp' argument.

Let's have the debate. But let's have it without the holier than thou 'You're the wrong type of tolerant' hijackings.

Exactly. I was firstly surprised comments were open (Faye's previous article didn't) and they're all sensible comments. With hundreds of recommendations. Hopefully the editorial team, plus writers like Hadley will make them appreciate there's a debate to have and closing comments, pre-moderating or deleting comments is not appropriate.

The most encouraging thing for me is the few comments shouting "transphobia" are politely and appropriately countered.

‘comment is free’ but when are they going to start publishing the ‘facts are sacred’ articles?
