A friend recently recommended this podcast, people telling their own stories. I wasn't expecting this, but the episode titled 'Bathtub Sailor, Seamstress, Spy' features Catherine Cross talking about her daughter who identifies as a boy. Worth a listen.
If I'd never been on these discussions, I would have simply thought 'What an inspiring story'. She's obviously a good and caring mum. But I found myself shouting at the radio - she never questioned her daughter's self-diagnosis, never sought outside help, second opinions. Or maybe she did but didn't mention it? I arrived at work with a few minutes to run so I don't know how far the transition has gone. Could I support my daughter getting radical surgery? No.
Not sure what I'm trying to say here really, but wondered if anyone else had heard her? She's now an active campaigner. Is she doing a wonderful job, or inadvertently harming troubled teenagers? I honestly wish I knew.
