And the Women's March are protesting against it, in defence of 'sex workers'

metrovoicenews.com/womens-march-organizers-criticized-for-support-of-prostitution-website/

The Women's March is a fucking disgrace, as far as I can tell

This looks to be the one decent action Trump has taken in his presidency and it's been opposed by 'feminists'.

No wonder people are confused as to the meaning of feminist

The right wingers are crowing about this. And I can't blame them

Women's march also told women who were marching not to wear "pussy hats" and to avoid placards etc with anything related to female reproductive system etc as "exclusionary" and got a TIM who has admitted raping a TIF with the intention of impregnating them.

Women's march are firmly in the corner of men in all that they do, I think.

KittTheCar · 14/04/2018 14:37

Sorry got the rapist to speak at one of the big marches.

Didn't finish the line!

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 14/04/2018 18:40

firmly in the corner of men

Worse than that, they seem to be in the corner of the sexually abusive. They backed Andi Dier as well as the self-confessed rapist Chernobyl Biko.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 14/04/2018 18:40

Cherno Biko. Bloody autocorrect

thebewilderness · 14/04/2018 20:08

It was bizarre for women to discover that the anti Trump Women's March organizers were sex pozzie pro pornstitution anti feminists.
Fortunately the March was much larger than the organizers and while they can no longer control it they are still running out in front pretending to be leaders.

ElenOfTheWays · 14/04/2018 20:21

Wait, so Trump is AGAINST prostitution and sex trafficking, and a feminist org is FOR it?

The world officially upside down. 🙃

thebewilderness · 14/04/2018 23:32

Since Feminist organizations are opposed to male violence against women I can only conclude that the "Women's March" is an MRA organization.

AnotherQuoll · 14/04/2018 23:41

I think the Women's March has become a propaganda outlet for/owned by the sex industry.

LassWiADelicateAir · 14/04/2018 23:50

Even if one were of the opinion that the sale of sex between adults in a non-brothel/non - pimped situation is acceptable (which I am not) the closing down of Backpage.com can still be supported with no contradiction.

LassWiADelicateAir · 14/04/2018 23:56

Wait, so Trump is AGAINST prostitution and sex trafficking, and a feminist org is FOR it

Apparently so.

Which illegal pies does Trump potentially have his fingers in. Then think about whether Trump is against prostitution and the protection of sex workers. Given the rumours, you'd be forgiven for jumping to the conclusion this was more likely to be about protecting his business interests or that of his cronies...

womanformallyknownaswoman · 15/04/2018 07:40

I know that's what the legislation was hoping to do - allow websites hosting traffickers to be held accountable - but it's much more complicated than that - and I suspect it isn't going to work - which is what many of the EFF supporters were saying - these sites will just close the business and establish somewhere else - out of reach.

Trump is either rubber stamping something that has huge popular support but questionable implementation, or it suits his business interests to enable less freedom in cyberspace. That this move, along with the recent repeal of Net Neutrality Laws, will allow ISPs and the like to now determine which traffic gets priority - so ordinary people will be put in the slow lane at the expense of big business like ISPs , Netflix etc

Its a sticking plaster on a gaping wound

womanformallyknownaswoman · 15/04/2018 07:51

Re The Womens March - what many don't appreciate is that these organisations breakdown into little local groups to organise at that level - they are not controlled from the centre.

Then the TRAs/MRAs infiltrate the local groups and deliberately seek positions of power - like the infamous Labour Officer for Women. Then they make some ridiculous misogynistic statements like Pussy Hats should be banned, and are enabled and supported by Libfems who know no better.

It's of course men who have the time to do all this as many women are busy with family/work responsibilities. So you get these ridiculous statements that The Women's March defends abusers - but it's one little part of the movement - but they get all the press.

This wasn't what the original founders of the Women's March had in mind….I have no doubt

tooyummy · 15/04/2018 16:21

by the same logic we may as well shut-down the entire internet because traffickers use the internet

Closing websites like backpage doesn't address the problem of trafficking. Traffickers will just find somewhere else online

thebewilderness · 15/04/2018 18:12

The Vice is Mike Pence an authoritarian member of the religious right. Trump signed the bill because he doesn't care and his VP says his Evangelical base does, even though they are the biggest users of pornstitution they are also self righteous poseurs.

KittTheCar · 15/04/2018 19:10

I find it very very hard to believe that DT is personally against prostitution!

KittTheCar · 15/04/2018 19:15

tooyummy I'm not sure I go along with that logic.

If a marketplace is well known for sex trafficking children, then it makes it easier for men who want to buy them.

Shutting it down dismantles that temporarily, and other places might not be so welcoming. If men have to look harder for this then some might not be able to find.

This is the same effect with most things - making it difficult won't put off the hardcore but will dissuade many of the more casual purchasers. There is also the "normalisation" thing - again, most people who are more casual are put off by things that are very difficult and very obviously highly illegal. If you and your online mates can all go to a highly open obvious marketplace to do this then it feels like maybe it's not so bad.

I don't think it is reasonable in a society to leave open a marketplace that is fairly blatently selling children for sex. And a mainstream marketplace at that.

KittTheCar · 15/04/2018 19:16

tooyummy maybe a better question would be, how would you address the problem? Leave the marketplace open, then what?

AnotherQuoll · 15/04/2018 20:53

I imagine it could be a handy disruption. Searching for new contacts and such, likely means more of them getting stung. Upset the nest and see where they all go. Some will fall into traps.
