I have to admit I have never considered myself to be a feminist. I was interested in people's rights, but not specifically women's rights.

Recent events have got me thinking. And I would like to understand more about feminism.

Can anyone recommend any good books or websites that would help give an understanding of what feminism is about, an objective analysis of the different branches (I assume there are different branches) and how it has evolved over time? Easy, accessible reads please - nothing too scholarly at this point please.

Thanks.

The Equality Illusion by Kat Banyard is a very readable intro.

Feminist Current website is good - they haven't fallen for the trans ideology that is threatening women and feminism right now.

Some links for things to watch

2nd Wave/Radical Feminism

Angry Wimmin BBC4 doc about revolutionary feminism

Interesting documentary about the Suffragettes

Vice documentary about men's rights (it may make you a bit shouty)

This video is brilliant - if Germaine Greer hosted Loose Women this is what it would look like. Late night discussion from 1994, featuring Janet Street Porter, Suzanne Moore and a very young looking (chainsmoking) Catlyn Moran.

These look great. Thanks.

I just watched that last one with Germaine Greer and it was fascinating! Seems like it was much longer ago than 1994, if only because of the way they were smoking. Not used to seeing that on telly anymore!
Very interesting to think of the differences and also the similarities to now. They spoke over Caitlin Moran quite a bit though!

It was very 'girlpower' - we're running rings around the men, 'ah bless' Naive but empowered. How things have changed! Suzanne Moore the only one a bit more cautious. Feels like we've gone backwards in many ways, but maybe we are more realistic about women's status?

Looking forward to watching that! I lived through 'girlpower' - at the time I thought we women had it made. I was young, just out of university education, thought we had it made. Equality was in the bag, so to speak.

I never dreamed the backlash could be so bad, so damaging.
