WAWAG?

This is at the heart of concerns and motivation for posts.

This is not about being 'anti' anything....

We need to be much clearer and insistent about this!

It's maybe because I haven't done all the bits they want me to do. Haven't tweeted or followed anything. And they often lock new accounts. I will sort it out tomorrow as just left work and out for the evening.

Ereshkigal · 10/04/2018 18:08

Yes I will absolutely do this tomorrow.

Ereshkigal · 10/04/2018 18:10

I will follow you first Sex Matters, then you can follow me back.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 10/04/2018 18:12

Need to really run home that our sex is a protected characteristic.

SexMatters · 10/04/2018 18:15

The reason that this is such a great hashtag, is that it highlights the bizarre sidelining of women and girls who are the most affected group.

In this disturbing thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3212371-Where-are-all-the-trans-men-An-Answer a key activist behind all these changes to the meaning of 'woman' and 'female' in the UK exposes deep anger that is so focused on 'winning' battles they don't stop to think who it is that is getting beaten (ie women and girls - not the males responsible).

Also the whole thinking that particular activist betrays, is completely in keeping with the screen grabs in the Helen Saxby article - every concern for women and girls safety, privacy, well-being, inclusion, dignity, choices, rights and fairness are blithely brushed aside, with an assertion that they should be 'educated' out of their concerns or sent on their merry way. It actually comes across as vengeful, contriving situations which turn the person raising concerns into a pariah.

All way you think 'What about women and girls'?

Ereshkigal · 10/04/2018 18:20

I will. Am happy to use it to tweet and retweet GC stuff focusing on considering the rights of women and girls in this issue or more generally. And if anyone wants to start a more formal involved campaign I will happily hand it over.

Ereshkigal · 10/04/2018 18:21

I absolutely agree that the way the debate is framed puts us on the back foot defending our meanness. We deserve to have our own needs and rights respected.

SexMatters · 10/04/2018 18:32

Yy

Waddlelikeapenguin · 10/04/2018 20:31

This is brilliant in its own right & delighted to have the phase at hand for in person discussions too.

AngryAttackKittens · 10/04/2018 20:56

I think the thread that Stephen started will be illuminating for many people who read it, and not in the way that Stephen was hoping for.

AngryAttackKittens · 10/04/2018 20:58

And yes, it's about women and girls. The expectation is the needs of trans people will be prioritized over those of women and girls. Women are saying no. This is not because we hate trans people, it's because our needs matter too.

Kyanite · 10/04/2018 22:41

Apparently women and girls don't get attacked as much so we have to open ourselves up to more attacks to even out the supposed imbalance.

womanformallyknownaswoman · 11/04/2018 07:48

Great idea - the "whataboutery" is so tiresome.

I use #waronwomen but am happy to go with #WAWAG as well

Ereshkigal · 11/04/2018 12:36

Haven't forgotten this. A bit busy today but working from home tomorrow so will do it in my break.

R0wantrees · 13/04/2018 09:19

saw WAWAG last night whilst WPUK was in Cardiff... thank you for doing this @Ereshkigal
