And that we’re just ‘fretting’ about the possibility of being threatened/harmed, while trans people face threats and harm every day!

Well women face threats and harm every day, Rosemary. Come on, you know this.

We don’t have single-sex provisions for things like the sleeper train because we know people will definitely get hurt on every train otherwise. We do it because people are entitled to feel safe and feel comfortable. I’m all for Serco making sure their provision for trans passengers allows them too to feel safe and comfortable, and I can appreciate why many trans women would not feel that sharing with men. But why does it suddenly become silly hypothetical ridiculousness when I don’t feel safe or comfortable sharing with men, either?

Also I don’t think she quite realises how much things have changed, if she’s linking being trans to going through surgery.

Ritzsaltedcrackers · 04/04/2018 13:10

What an ignorant woman.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 04/04/2018 13:28

It makes no sense whatsoever
"One man’s version of masculinity can be very different from that of his neighbour, despite sharing an identical physique."

Therefore you should shut up & be happy to share with some men??!?!

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 04/04/2018 14:39

He did point out that there is a call button in every compartment, but presumably some will not deem that sufficient protection.

And last time I was raped I had a phone in my hand, it offered me so much protection. Hmm

whoputthecatout · 04/04/2018 14:48

Silly sod. Can't she get her head round the fact that we want to keep the threat "hypothetical" as she puts it, rather the real it is likely to become. Shit for brains some people.

JellySlice · 04/04/2018 14:49

"One man’s version of masculinity can be very different from that of his neighbour, despite sharing an identical physique."

Well, that's fine. Let him go on being his version of masculinity among his male neighbours. He does not need to impose his or any other version of masculinity upon his female neighbours. Nor pretend that his version of masculinity is actually femininity - and eexpect us to agree!

Waddlelikeapenguin · 04/04/2018 15:08

Petition link comment removed Hmm

AsAProfessionalPenis · 04/04/2018 15:11

Two words
India Willoughby
Had surgery. Still looks and acts males and appears to hate women

Sparctopus · 04/04/2018 15:44

Just read that the shooter at YouTube was a transwoman, although still largely being reported just as "woman". I had been a bit surprised when I first heard about the shooting as it's usually such a male crime... no longer surprised!

Sparctopus · 04/04/2018 15:52

Actually, update to say I'm not 100% sure whether what I read was correct or not. Seems a bit uncertain at the moment, so don't quote just yet (unless someone has a more definite link).

CATTamongthepigeons · 04/04/2018 16:25

Maybe I’m just following all the newspaper reports on this too closely, but this seems utterly out of date now. The discussion seems to finally be moving on to something more nuanced. Back to same-old, same-old...

AreYouTerfEnough · 04/04/2018 16:52

Why do we have to justify why we want man free spaces anyway? Even if the assault risk was minimal, it’s just a relief to be away from them. They’re such a nuisance at times and so arrogant and are akin to demanding children. Why do we constantly have to give reasons? Just bugger off and leave us alone. Just wanting to escape the mansplaining is reason enough.
