Censorship on Babycentre

DoroVallens · 02/04/2018 19:54

Women are being banned by community managers when bringing up transgender issues.
Comments posted shouldn´t question nor challenge trans ideology, that´s simply not open to debate.

Women responding with reasonable concerns are considered homophobic by BC guidelines and the subject can barely be discussed without members being flagged and blocked.
Threads or posts disappear without a trace, usually without explanation other than a link to the BC guidelines.

This is the only topic being censored.

Are we living the end of free speech? Is being inclusive more important than ever?

What do they get out of silencing women?

Ritzsaltedcrackers · 02/04/2018 20:02

That’s appalling!!

DoroVallens · 02/04/2018 20:14

@Ritzsaltedcrackers from what I read on here, it’s not unusual.

I do wonder what a parenting site gains by doing this though.

It’s very strange.

OP posts:
Thanksforthatamazingpost · 02/04/2018 20:54

Example?

UpstartCrow · 02/04/2018 21:02

How the hell are women's concerns about self ID homophobic? Its lesbians who are put at most risk!

DoroVallens · 02/04/2018 21:05

@Thanksforthatamazingpost

Unfortunately, I cant’t give you examples of deleted posts...

You can start a thread and see how that goes Wink

I can assure you, you could copy any thread title from here and it would be deleted and your user blocked.

OP posts:
DoroVallens · 02/04/2018 21:08

@UpstartCrow

Because transpeople's rights and feelings should be put first. They clearly do not care about women's concerns.

Are they directly calling members homophobic? Does anyone have their name linked to their account where they have been accused of this? I would be livid if someone suggested I was homophobic, they can’t just go around throwing that term about.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 02/04/2018 21:35

You have to have REALLY drunk the KoolAid to think it is fine and dandy for a website called BABYCENTRE (ie the person having the baby and the baby herself) to then centre MEN!!!!

Sorry for shouting..sometimes I wish I had some KoolAid so I wouldn't be so concerned about this!! 😩😩

RosenbergW · 02/04/2018 21:44

I guarantee that Babycentre has a resident transwoman whose feelings are hurt by women talking about trans issues. They pop up whenever the topic does to talk lots and lots about how hard their life is and how they just want to be able to live in peace in the 'right body' they have known since they were toddlers they deserve, suckling the air and light out of every thread. They threaten to flounce unless women shut up then after every flounce they come back with a new name but the same BS. Mumsnet has had them too but luckily their reports and threats didn't win out, other forums haven't been so lucky.

ALittleBitOfButter · 02/04/2018 21:51

What about a thread complaining about transphobia? Would that stay up? We could moan about terfs who don't want convicted rapists and sex offenders in women's prisons etc. Educate by stealth.

Mouthtrousersafrocknowandthen · 02/04/2018 21:54

What grips their nuts so tightly they can't allow even a conversation?

Precisely.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 02/04/2018 21:56

Which section would we post that on? I mean if we were that way inclined this evening?

Desmondo2016 · 02/04/2018 21:56

Babycentre is renowned for their censorship and dictator style admin team. I was an unofficial birth club admin for a while and found we were expected to delete and block for crazy reasons!

Teabagtits · 02/04/2018 22:01

Oh babycentre is a bit bonkers. I could write a book about my experience there. This does not surprise me.

Waddlelikeapenguin · 02/04/2018 22:02

I use a lovely hippy dippy forum (not for intelligent debate - i get that here Grin) & there was one thread about self id which was left while it was positive but as soon as a couple of negative comments were added the thread was zapped. Their reasoning was that they are supportive to everyone so a non supportive thread was not ok but when digging deeper they're basically scared of the forum being attacked by TRAs.

FlowersMNHQ for allowing free speech

Atthebottomofthesea · 02/04/2018 22:28

Add in a few very vocal parents of trans children and it can soon get messy.

MrsHathaway · 02/04/2018 22:50

I know some higher-up admins on BC. They are personally gender critical and raising gender non conforming DC. They are highly educated people used to questioning received wisdom and speaking up for minorities. I think they've got into the (rational and kind) position of wanting to support trans* people in the widest sense.

Don't forget that BC is way left of MN politically.

DoroVallens · 03/04/2018 06:33

@CircleSquareCircleSquare
They claim, posts are being reported as homophobic.
There are two boards where this subject could potentially be debated:
WYOO:
community.babycentre.co.uk/groups/a712475/whats_your_opinion_on_...
Dynamic Debate: community.babycentre.co.uk/groups/a3895539/dynamic-debate
But take look, there´s one running on WYOO and they deleted so many posts the thread is glitching...
One of the best debaters on the subject was banned a week ago, simply for saying "self identified".

@ALittleBitOfButter we try, we always try.
But comments are sneakily reported and the whole thread suddenly disappears, no explanations.

OP posts:
ijustwannadance · 03/04/2018 07:55

Threads are shut down quickly, not due to hurty feelz, but so any discussion which might cause people to realise it's all actually a load of bs is stopped.

DoroVallens · 03/04/2018 08:02

@MrsHathaway
Interesting!

@ijustwannadance
Very strange that women cannot have a voice on a parenting forum.

Are we living the end of free speech?

There never has been any such thing as free speech on a private forum. Would you give up the right to stop someone taking over your living room to preach at you about a random subject?

TerfinUSA · 03/04/2018 09:27

Some private forums do operate free speech, this is in fact a basis of law (the common carrier principle) for over a century.

anneoneill · 03/04/2018 09:32

@TerfinUSA A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. But good luck in your court proceedings against baby centre using that legal approach.
