The tide is turning? encouraging video on BBC website about Lucy

This popped up on my phone app of BBC news, although it's not on the front page of the web version, and dated 24 March.

Although I was initially irritated by the 'they' pronoun, by the end of the video I was saluting Lucy's courage in deciding not to transition and more importantly, daring to speak out about this. They even mention pressure from 'trans', and challenge the 'I like dresses and makeup therefore I must be female' trope, plus some of the downsides of taking hormones. There are some confused ideas in there too, but IMO the very fact that the BBC are putting this video up means that they aren't kowtowing to the TRA agenda. Well done Lucy, well done BBC!

Seriously encouraging .... I am confident there are so many more stories out there like this and Lucy speaking out will give them confidence to question and reflect and find the right path for themselves....

So glad the BBC did this

I'm glad the BBC did this too, but I do wonder if the BBC would have made this film if they weren't following up on the earlier film about Lucy 'Transition: My first haircut as me'.

I agree, good film, good luck to him.
I'm interested in why he wants to use 'they' as a pronoun
Surely he's saying that this is his way of being a man?

also I'd like to know more about what happened at the gender clinic, it sounds like he was being expected to put on a certain performance of feminiity

I really warmed to this person. They spoke a lot of sense. Good video.

Flowers to Lucy! Brilliant that they had the chance to share their story.

I got the impression Lucy wants to use 'they' is because they were taking hormones (that they bought online Sad ) for a while, which have made them not fully male any more. I could be wrong though.

I get the feeling Lucy is using the pronoun 'they' because going back to 'he' is a much bigger backtrack. Which is entirely understandable.

But it might also be because of the body changing hormones they have taken. Lucy understandably seems miffed at the long term effects of the hormones they've taken.

In the previous film Lucy mentions feeling uncomfortable with themselves for 12 years and not looking in the mirror and feeling no lust for life.

It's great that Lucy was able to recognise life altering surgery was not appropriate. I wonder how much of that came from Lucy or from the gender clinic. I suspect it came from Lucy.

And Lucy takes up cycling and feels awesome. Brilliant that Lucy feels good again.
