Are there any alternative political parties?

Are there any alternative political parties?

The stance on self Id and willingness to leave EU has put me off Labour, my fallback Greens are no good. Just posted on the thread about Greens.

Lib dems pissed me off long ago. Never voted Tory. I like Theresa May but her stance on self I'd has put me off too!

I don't personally want a women only party but one started by women but with inclusive values, good policy and one so good that men want to join, but not take over!

The new anti leaving EU party did not give me an answer on self id.

So, as I asked on the Green thread. is there any anti poverty, anti self id, strong on law and punishment of crime, no soft touch, green policies and not leaving EU party?

How can we not leave EU? New referendum or maybe we leave and have another referendum to go back in?

Is there any alternative? Or is it to broad to hope for racial diversity MPs, ability/alternative ability MPs, trans MPs with GRC, and good mix females to males with strong leader?

Too much to ask?

I'd second that, Danny.
It's a grim feeling when you've always voted and always believed that it was important to cast your vote. But who is there to vote for now?
I've never felt so rootless.

My local communist party is very gender critical. I have been to meet them and they are getting their statement ready. I will be voting in local elections for them. Fuck knows who in GA.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 01/04/2018 14:30

Renew Britain have set up as an anti Brexit party as far as a I can tell. They are very new so may still be lobbyable on self ID. They seem to be in the garnering opinions phase on many issues. They have a consultation out on Twitter. I’ve completed it.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/04/2018 14:55

They have a consultation out on Twitter

Is it just Twitter? I don't use Twitter or FB...I worry that if these are the only channels by which opinions are gathered, it will miss a lot of sensible grownups huge swathes of the population

Tackytriceratops · 01/04/2018 15:09

The name... gah. I did fleetingly have a good one earlier but then I got drunk and watched Star Wars.

(A) New Hope?!

Tackytriceratops · 01/04/2018 15:12

Dh wants a centrist party.

The centrist party? Centring

Italiangreyhound · 01/04/2018 15:53

@Tackytriceratops I like hope but it sounds treacly.

I also think any name revealed on Mumsnet would end up with a 'Terf' label attached to it so would not do well.

Mumsnett is a great forum for discussing things but I think if this were ever a reality it would need to be discussed in a secure location. Name and all.

How did they set up the WEP? Wasn't it a ground-funded thing? I'd put money in for MN party and get involved.
I imagine it would be a small start - identify a single target seat and expect to lose it, but also raise issues and awareness at the same time.
Agree it shouldn't have women in the title.
Unless things change substantially by the next election, I'm going to spoil my ballot. I cannot vote for any of the existing parties in good conscience.

StarsAndWater · 01/04/2018 16:02

I'm in a safe seat though so it won't make a difference. I'd be really torn if I were in a marginal

SasBel · 01/04/2018 16:10

I would support a party like that MrsUnderwood

Italiangreyhound · 01/04/2018 16:10

I really think tackling male violence, in fact any violence (let's call it all violence) should be an aim of any party. Cheap alcohol, lack of hope and lack of opportunity, drugs and toxic masculinity makes a wizard's brew of shit that leaves young people, as well as older people vulnerable to gang violence etc.

As a parent I fear for my son just as much as my daughter, in fact sometimes more so. To me being a feminist doesn't mean forgetting men are also the victims of other men, boys the victims of other boys as well as women and girls being mostly targets for sexualised attacks etc. None of it is OK.

Ok well... if there really IS interest in this maybe we can move to a secure place to discuss?

Full disclosure though: I have never had political ambitions. I want to be a midwife. I am an ex-sex worker.

Greymisty · 01/04/2018 18:31

For what it's worth... better an ex-sex worker than a public school boyman who uses sex workers. And I'd vote for a mumsnet party over anything else out there now.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 01/04/2018 22:42

@ErrolTheDragon

This should be the link to the questionnaire. It’s a bit basic and, as I say, they are more a stooge Brexit outfit but there is space for free text in the questions so the self ID issue can be raised.

Cheers

@Greymisty "For what it's worth... better an ex-sex worker than a public school boyman who uses sex workers. And I'd vote for a mumsnet party over anything else out there now."

I agree but I think mumsnet would set it very much in a way that would make non-mumsnetters 'feel' excluded. I know they would not be. But I feel they would feel it.

Thanks for the RenewBritain link, I enjoyed reading about them and feel quite positive about them even though they have a ways to go in order to establish themselves but their stand on self id is the most important issue for me and I'm slightly ashamed of that, if it feels a bit self invested.
I totally agree with a previous poster about being politically homeless!

Greymisty · 02/04/2018 00:12

Italiangreyhound - i get mumsnet is seen as a specific type of woman thing, it's sort of othered if you catch my drift and I wasn't thinking a literally MN worded party but more along the lines of I now (having read mn for ages) have a appreciation for mn associated things. You folks get mentioned in womans place uk, twitter etc. MN has a stigma that is undeserved and it's a shame.

Italiangreyhound · 02/04/2018 00:40

@Greymisty I so agree "MN has a stigma that is undeserved and it's a shame."
