Language and use of cis

I’m struggling. I do not identify as a cis woman. I am a woman. I can see why many are offended by this prefix.

BUT...

My daughter is currently being assessed for autism. It’s almost a certainty that she will be diagnosed with ASD. As we’ve gone through the diagnostic process, I’ve found my language has changed. When talking about my daughter vs her peers, I now use the term ‘neuro-typical’ to describe those without autism. I’m beginning to hate when people use the term ‘normal’. If I thought anyone was annoyed by me describing them as neuro-typical, I in turn would be annoyed because when comparing them to my daughter, this is what they are.

Isn’t this the same as the use of the word cis?

That's the problem with deciding whether something is nature and not nurture, isn't it?

It's obviously quite a fascinating field. And one that is difficult to prove either way, except you can definitely prove socialisation as evidenced by all the studies into unconscious bias.

Whether it's nature or nurture over this issue is a bit moot, though.

Whether you think men women behave differently because it's innate, or socialised, you still have it falling very decidedly into sex categories.

The prevalence of transwomen in macho occupations like the military, their prevalence in the tech industry, the above average rate of sex offending in terms of prison convictions, and the fact that all the aggressive, dominant transactivists are natal men, not women.

Whether that behaviour is innate or socialised, they are still behaving in a stereotypically male way.

“innate psychological”.....

Do you mean innate neurological?

I am with you on the need fo4 debate though Brew

Oldrugged (how very Paschal) - I don't know! I'm not a neuropsychologist. I probably mean both, because if I mean to say that men and women tend to show some psychological differences and I believe these to be innate, then they must have a neurological component.

i don't mean to say, by the way, that if a stroppy six-footer with a death wish, excellence in spatial reasoning, and a penchant for rugby and large-bosomed ladies, wishes to define him/herself as a woman, that I'm going to be so arsy as to say she shouldn't be allowed to. I haven't got licensing rights over names or pronouns or dresses, have I? (anyway, she lives round the corner and I've known her for years.) I just think we ought to be allowed to talk about it without getting death threats.

When "die neurotypical scum" is a thing then we'll chat.
