Rape attrition rate vs conviction rate.

I'm not trying to argue that rape is not a big problem, but in the light of some high profile cases, and the hopelessness this engenders I've dug out this old Guardian article which bears a look at:

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/mar/19/myths-about-rape-conviction-rates

I may have been a bit harsh on another thread by attacking people saying they would encourage others not to report, but what I fear is just letting men get away with it can only make things worse and not better.

I haven't read article and you won't want to hear this.... I am not sure either if you have anything like this ever happen to you in your life (which I hope you never had) but unless you have been through it you really can't judge people.

The article states that the conviction rate is 58% but the problem is, that getting to the point of the CPS agreeing to take your case already puts rape victims through a lot of trauma which ought to be acknowledged. This and the CPS's incredibly high standards for what they will prosecute is a direct cause of the attrition rate so actually I think the that it's really important to challenge whether the legal system is letting down women prior to the court case.

If only about 10% of cases that are reported get to court then this in and of itself is a huge problem with the system. What's more when we are shown time and again that even victims who are deemed worthy enough to go to court are essentially put on trial and the defence are continually relying on rape myths, I see this is a revictimisation where only 58% of victims put through even get to see justice.
