"The Disappearance of Desire"

I don't know if anybody has linked to this article yet: The Disappearance of Desire.
I know nothing about the author or the magazine other than what wiki says and both author and magazine are quite conservative it seems. The article is worth reading I think, no matter where the author stands politically otherwise. It's a detailed look at the trans movement (from a US point of view) and the claims it makes wrt gender and sexuality and sexual orientation.
There is only a limited number of times one can access the article before a paywall comes up. I can't get back to it now from my home IP, so can't look at it more closely but I think it's worth a read.

Sorry, should have added for anyone who doesn't want to click on links to possibly dubious sites: the author is called Sohrab Ahmari and the magazine is Commentry Magazine

You should share this on some other threads, especially the ones in AIBU.

Thanks, really interesting article.

This from the notes section is something I have read before, and I find disturbing in relation to organisations such as Mermaids and their recommendation of affirmation on children.

Blanchard and Bailey would likely argue, however, that even the 81.7-percent figure underestimates the rate of fetishistic transvestitism among the autogynephiles, since these patients have a tendency toward “memory distortion” after they transition. As Bailey told an interviewer in 2015, “they begin to assert that their gender dysphoria began in early childhood and was far more overt than they had alleged before. They also deemphasize the erotic component, even if they admitted it before. I think they do this for at least two reasons: shame (because: sex is involved) and the desire to believe they really have the brains of women.” The media’s preference for the brain-trapped-in-the-wrong-body narrative may impel the autogynephiles to adopt it.

I thought this was a brilliant piece. Thanks for sharing it OP. I hope it's read very widely. Could possibly be a good article to share with friends to explain the issue, as it's very well researched and reasoned.

Brilliant article OP

Sorry, I'm somewhere with only intermittent internet access this weekend.
Glad others find it an interesting read too. It's so clearly and calmly argued.
