www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/world-us-canada-43432238/the-pink-house-the-last-abortion-clinic-in-mississippi

BBC video item about the Pink House, the last abortion clinic in Mississippi (which has just introduced a law banning abortion after 15 weeks, possibly in contravention of Roe vs Wade). The women who run this clinic, the women who volunteer to accompany women past the gauntlet of protesters - these women are heroes. Absolute bloody heroes.

They are very brave people, considering they are helping others in a country which sometimes can prove to be violent for people holding an opposing viewpoint. They are heroes.

Thank you for highlighting. Brave indeed.

I see that Nottingham City Council have managed to secure an injunction against an anti abortionist who repeatedly pickets outside the treatment centre at the hospital - 40 days of harassing women when they are at their most vulnerable. About time that this started to happen.

ChattyLion · 23/03/2018 07:31

Absolute respect for those providing safe and woman-centred abortion and contraception (morning after pill) services in the face of personal threats, harassment and protests. Flowers
Well done Nottingham council Flowers

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/03/2018 07:39

Wow

You are right. Absolute hero's.

It's criminal people are allowed to stand outside there all day yelling shit at the women. They'd never do that to men. Yet they are there partly because of men. They didn't get pregnant on their own. Where's the anger and protests at the dads?

Makes me so angry. Their bodies their choices

Thank heavens there are amazing women like that in the world. You are incredible Flowers

HairyBallTheorem · 23/03/2018 07:45

That's very good news about Nottingham, rowdy.

Just coming on to support this. I find it depressing/incredible that this goes on in a so-called civilised society.

Badgerthebodger · 23/03/2018 08:56

Sheroes, all of them. It’s such a brave thing to do - both the people who run the clinic and the women who attend. I am appalled that in 2018 women still do not have complete bodily autonomy. I think this attitude plays into one of the reasons why some men rape. Society tells them that women aren’t in charge of their own bodies, porn shows them they are entitled to women’s bodies, and the pitifully low prosecution rate tells them they won’t get caught. I know NAMALT, and I will raise my boy to be respectful of others (like his dad), but boys from naice families still rape, presumably all of this is a contributing factor

wildduckhunt · 23/03/2018 09:41

What an amazing thing they're doing.

The Guardian reported yesterday on a 14 year old Paraguayan girl who died giving birth after she was raped by a 37 year old man. The baby survived. Just utterly heartbreaking that her life was worth nothing to the authorities who maintain the near total ban on abortion.

Amazing brave women

How can woman be PM’s Presidents, head of large corporations, top scientists yet so many have no autonomy that is supported by the state over their own bodies

But of course in areas of religious hierarchy women trail behind Hmm

rowdywoman1 · 24/03/2018 07:37

I know that other councils are considering bans Hairy. There's a clinic not far from me and I occasionally see groups of sanctimonious bigots outside trying to intimidate women going in. I rarely pass up the opportunity to point out that they're bullies when I go past.
The world is a difficult place for many women.

ChattyLion · 24/03/2018 07:41

If anyone knows which other councils I would love to be able to email and give the idea more support. I will also look up an address for Nottingham council and email them with thanks for supporting local women.
